Hello everyone, how are you all doing on this beautiful Easter Sunday? I do wish you all happy celebrations, whether you are Christians or not. It is a season of love, let us all share it.
My topic for today will be inspired by the first topic for the week that was chosen by the members of this noble community. And that is my journey so far in the world of cryptocurrencies.
I have to admit, it has not been an easy one. From the beginning it was a series of heartbreaks for me, putting my money and making financial decisions without proper and adequate research. I lost a lot of money back then. I will tell you all about it.
The first time I heard about cryptocurrencies was in movies, long before I realized that they were a real thing. In movies, criminals and terrorists used crypto to finance their operations. If they wanted to hire an assassin or contract a bomb maker, they made use of crypto and the dark web. So, subconsciously my mind was tuned to that frequency that crypto was only for shady dealings and it was not something I wanted to get involved in.
But then, as I grew older I began to see some people that had taken interest in this digital currency, at that time it was only bitcoin that the world knew about and it was not worth that much. I still did not believe this could be something that could be used for good. My mind was still wired to what I had seen in the movies. As long as you were doing anything that had to do with crypto, then you were a criminal.
So, I lived in my bubble for a long time, like the ostrich that buried his head in the sand while the world was on fire all around him.
And then, Covid struck.
If you remember, in one of my previous posts, I mentioned how the pandemic had made everyone realize what a goldmine social media could be. Let me just say the same was the case for crypto.
Being on lockdown and unable to work but needing to eat anyway, people looked for other options. And that was how crypto started to grow. I really do not know the science behind all that, but one thing I am sure of is that bitcoin which did not use to be worth so much previously, suddenly shot through the roof. One bitcoin was worth thousands of dollars.
And that was only the beginning.
More coins started coming out, more people started taking avid interest and seeing it as a reliable source of living. To the extent that it became a hot topic on the news. And that was where it came to my attention again.
This time I did my research and realized that the movies had been lying to me all these years. I decided to try investing. Bitcoin was so expensive so I did not bother, I instead tried to go for cheaper coins. Someone promised me that some coins (can’t remember the name) will always appreciate in value, in fact, they can only appreciate. These coins do not depreciate at all, it was like they do not obey the physics of the crypto market.
I fell for it. And I lost my money. It was a scam.
Another time, my friend advised me to invest in some other coins, although this one was legit this time around. But I did not do any research to know if it was the right time for me to buy, and neither did my friend. He was only telling me what someone else told him. He is my guy, so he was only sharing updates.
Anyhow, I still lost my money. Soon after I bought the coins, the price plummeted and in days I lost more than half of what I had put in.
Maybe I had been wrong, maybe the movies had been right. Or maybe it was that mentality that was just countering my moves. Anyway, I gave up on crypto, choosing to build my career as a writer instead.
Until I discovered Hive.
Hive made a lot of things so easy for me, writing and the mechanics of crypto are chief on the list. Through Hive, I was able to discover a way to invest the right way without even having to spend a dime. Unless it is for data, of course.
I had to learn how to read the market, and know when everything is right so I can sell and get the best price. And so far so good, it has been going pretty great for me.
If there is one thing I have discovered, not everyone is meant to be a crypto trader. I know that crypto will take over the world someday, but that does not mean we all must be an expert in it. We all eat food every day, but that does not mean we must be traders right? All you need is to know the basics so that when you go to the market you will know what exactly you want.
And that is the principle I operate with now, I sell only when I need the money. But I do not trade crypto, maybe it is just not for me. People have what they are good at, but for you to be really good you also need to have the interest. And unfortunately, I am not all that interested in trading.
A time might come when I will change my mind, no one knows tomorrow. But for now, for today, I am just happy with the way I am. Making my blogs, selling my coins. There will be no more heartbreak for me.
And that is my journey in the amazing world of crypto so far, I have come a long way indeed. I know. There is still some way to go and I look forward to every step of it. More lessons to be learned and more experiences that I will surely share.
Thank you very much for reading, till we meet in the next post.
And a happy Easter to you all once again.
