At this point, it’s beginning to look like people would do or say anything just to get as much money as they possibly can from their customers. They’d do rebranding, renaming of their products, heavy marketing, all but actually provide the value that is equivalent to the amount of money that they’re after. Because in the end, that is all they are after, your money.
With the way people are so obsessed with money, they don’t care if you actually die, as long as your dying act will be to give them your money. That’s why a hospital will not even attempt to treat a patient, even if they’re on the verge of death, until they’ve paid certain fees and bought some stupid cards. It’s crazy, I know!
But the even crazier one? Are the ones who toss words like premium and quality around. Like when I hear people differentiate their goods with words like premium and quality, I wonder, what about the ones that are not under those categories? Are they substandard? Are they inferior? Like, why the hell would I want to patronize someone who’s not shy about selling goods and services that are not up to standard?
I was having a chat with an event decorator, and he told me about how it’s expensive to hire people like him. And for quality decorations in your event, you’d need nothing less than 30 million naira. Now, I don’t really mind the price. Every service provider has the right to charge whatever they want; it’s up to the clientele to either patronize them or not. My problem with the statement though, is his calling it quality decoration.
Does it mean that if I budget 20 million naira for the decorations in the same place and for the same event, I’d get services that are less than standard? Asin, it’s okay to charge an arm and a leg, with your experience, you’ve most likely earned that right. But stop making it seem like people who can’t afford your fees are making huge mistakes, or they’re getting services that are not of quality. I say this because I asked him if he would still do the job if I had only 20 million, and he said he would, but he warned me that it would be of lower quality. The lower my money goes, the lower the quality drops.
But then, this is where it all gets crazy, because if it were really about quality, then he would not accept anything less than 30 million because it would provide a quality of work he wouldn’t be familiar with. And there are many service providers like that. They tell you their price, and they won’t take anything less because the price they give you is what works best for them and you. But those who are willing to adjust the quality of their services based on the amount of money you give them mean that they only care about the money, and even if you give them the full 30 million, they’ll still try to use the cheapest materials and spend as little of that money as possible.
This is because the quality they tell you is not a category; it’s simply an image. And once you look past it, you see them for what they really are.
