This has been a very wet weekend for me. And boy, I’m already tired, I swear! We’re now in the thick of the rainy season, and it’s that time of the month when the night before we’re to go out, we take a look at the weather forecast, so we’d know for sure if we should go out with an umbrella, wear a raincoat, or a rainboot. Or for extreme cases, take them all!
It’s not raining every day yet, but from how this past week was, I can tell you that it’s now most likely every month at least for the rest of this rainy season. I’ve gotten all my sweaters close by, because based on multiple experiences, e no dae hard for the weather to change. So, however the wind blows, I’m always covered.
Here in my area, it’s been raining all weekend! Not consistent rainfall, but it’s rained every day since Friday! Friday was by far the worst, it started in the morning and didn’t stop until late in the day. Streets were flooded, and transportation costs increased. It was that point where you no longer cared what you had to pay, you simply wanted to get home. So, if the drivers asked for your kidneys, you’d most likely have handed them over happily.
But then, Saturday came around, and we also got rain. It was a bit heavy, but it mainly served to irritate everyone. It didn’t do a lot of damage. The kind of rain that falls, and all you feel is anger, not because of the flood, or because of the hitch in your plans, but simply because you know it will just stress you when going home. And that stress is something that you just don’t want to be bothered with. So yeah, it can be quite infuriating.
And now, today is Sunday, and it has rained yet again! This time, it rained in the morning, when I was preparing to go to mass. It was quite the deceptive rain because it made me believe that I had a shot, but just before I left the house, it opened up and fell heavily for about an hour. We got some clear skies, but the rain returned hours later in the evening. That fell for quite some time as well. And since then, there has been no more rain. I believe it’s done for the week!
Of course, there will be more rain during this coming week, and I’m already getting ready for it. In time, we’d be in the 7-day rain, the one where it will rain constantly for seven days. The one where houses in major parts of Lagos will be covered in water. The ones where many people will be stranded because the only mode of transportation for them will be to swim. Yeah… we’re slowly getting there!
Well, it’s all good. Let’s get the rains started!!!
