For me, nothing much happened on New Year’s Day. As far as I can see, it was just another day in a long lineup of days for me. On the eve of New Year’s Day, I watched a movie late into the night, and considering how I didn’t get any nap, I fell asleep pretty quickly. And while everyone else was counting down to the New Year, I was snug in my bed, dead to the world.
It was that way because I didn’t really see the point of being awake or anything. I was not planning on attending the crossover service because it would have been a bad idea to try it in my area. At the time, this place was still deserted, so coming home alone in the wee hours of the morning would have ended on a terrible note for me, and that’s no way to start the New Year.
So, I slept through the night and woke up sometime around seven. Now that it was morning, it was okay for me to get out of the house. And I did. The streets were empty and clean, something that was a rarity. I actually enjoyed walking down them, and the air smelt so fresh, that I could just keep breathing it in.
The only downside to the day was the harsh sunlight, it was so mean and hot, as if it was trying to punish me for not observing the crossover. Anyway, it was harsh enough to force me to go back home where I spent the rest of the day doing normal things. Like binge-watching series, playing music at the loudest volume, and blogging.
Of course, I also spoke to my family members on that day, wishing them all a happy new year. I think that was the highlight of it all for me, having to speak to my family. And it was not a short talk, you know how conversations like this can be, leading from one topic to the other until shockingly, one hour has gone by. Thankfully, it was a WhatsApp call, so airtime wasn’t an issue.
Oh, and before I forget, I also went on a stroll that evening. By the time the sun had gone down, it was the perfect weather to get out of the house and receive the cool breeze and that was what I was planning to do. I made my way into my school and simply strolled around it. This was something I hadn’t done in quite a long time. The last time I strolled like that was during my ND 1 days and that was when I was staying in the school hostel.
In the evenings and during weekends, the school was always partially empty and it always made for good strolling grounds. And on the evening of January 1st, I took such strolls again and it reminded me of just how far I had come from the naïve fresher of NDs. It truly was a blessing.
Soon, I got tired of walking, so I took a bike back home and continued my movies because I didn’t really want to do much work that day. And that was how it was until the day was over and 1st slowly blended right into 2nd. And the New Year’s Day was over.
So friends, there you have it. My New Year’s Day. It wasn’t all that fun seeing as I spent it alone, but I enjoyed spending it by myself because it gave me time to think about a lot. I thought about the past year, my achievements, and my failures. I then thought about the coming year and everything I was looking to achieve. There is so much in store for us this year, we just have to be willing to go hard after it.
All in all, it was a great day and a good start to the New Year because as it stands, I’m just not gonna stress myself for nobody.
