Addiction is like a cult, easy to start but very difficult to stop.

If you have not yet started smoking, porn, gambling, drinking, etc., do not start it, I repeat, do not start it, because these things are seen as a fun thing to do at first, you do it at your leisure time until it becomes addictive, and you can no longer do without them.
When I was still living in a Face me I slap you house, I used to have a neighbour, an elderly street brother who always went to the toilet with a smoke, and when asked the reason, he said he won't be able to defecate without smoking, which has turned into a habit for him. He seems normal. Still, I believe he is not fine medically if he has to smoke before he can defecate.
I used to know a guy who took a substance, I have forgotten the name, but he spent 4k daily on that substance. If he doesn't take it, his body and hands would be shaking, and he won't feel alright. His condition deteriorates at some points when he wasted his life savings buying that substance, and he doesn't have more money to keep buying it. He started begging people, and all I can say now is that I hope he is still alive and in good health.

Don't let me get started on porn, porn and masturbation are intertwined cos there is no way you will watch porn that you won't masturbate, and it is that masturbation that most people get addicted to that makes them watch more porns so they can masturbate and feel those sensations.
At first, these things are our choice and decisions, but later become something we can't control and are now the ones controlling us and trying to abstain from some of them comes with consequences unless we seek medical help or rehabilitation.
Peer Pressure and influence are often the reasons some people are addicted to some things; those addicted to smoking and drugs didn't start on their own. Friends influences most.
Years ago, when I was in secondary school, I attended a party of one of my classmates and I was given a beer to drink but I rejected it and asked for malt instead, one of my classmate made jest of me saying I am behaving like a small boy but his statement changes nothing nor influence me to do what I didn't want to do.
This is something that happened to many people, and because they don't want others to see them as less, they decided to do things they don't like and end up getting addicted to that lifestyle.
