In a world where everyone has the freedom of speech with the right to exercise it fluently and verbally. There has to be a method or rules that should be applied to regulate orderliness and ensure proactiveness.
Humans are the highest contender of humanity in the universe and each with different backgrounds and thought processes, they bring unique viewpoints to the team's table that can help tackle problems for optimal results.
It's essential to understand that while diversity can enhance the team's performance, it can just as easily disrupt it. That's where the alignment to core values becomes critical.
Diversity of opinions is a varied set of thoughts or viewpoints that make up a whole plan.
The importance of diversity is intrinsic to our daily lives. It is in the diversity that we find opportunities for learning and practicing different skills: empathy, emotional intelligence, and in-depth understanding.
The essence of having a range of differing opinions within teams hasn't been disregarded yet. Considering a varied group of team members coming from a range of backgrounds can reduce risks while making better inventions and creativity in the order of equilibrium. After all, what's a team without goals and performances?
The leadership team also has a huge part to play in the creation of an environment that endorses the productive sharing of differing viewpoints. They should strive to establish a culture of acceptance and creativity within their teams but unfortunately, some of these team's leaders are gender biased.
Gender inequality in workplaces has been functional before the Victorian era and to date in other parts of the world.
During the third week of September, there was a birthday celebration of our spiritual leader in the church. It was so massive that the auditorium and other extensions were filled with new and old members.
Prior to that day, there was a planning committee that was in charge of taking care of the event inclusive of every other thing. Other groups report to the planning/organizing committee.
My mom was among them and that was how I knew what had happened inside the circle. Most of all the leaders in this planning committee are men and there are no women in the position to add something to what was being shared.
Even if a woman stood up and suggested something, they flag it down and say otherwise. The only woman who was able to talk properly was the one planning how the spiritual director would be ushered in that day. That was the aspect they listened to fervently and approved it with immediate effect, the rest of the plans and suggestions were done and executed by them.
Everything was in motion on that very day, it looked like a celebrity was hosting a big party and people were in multiples of thousands! I was humbly shocked. During the birthday celebration, the pastor (spiritual director) announced with his customized microphone and specifically told the planning committee that they didn't plan this well.
He was lamenting, following the aspect of his congregation not having a place to sit during that service and he wanted to see all of them after the service ended. To my dismay, I saw the group of committees that had been sitting beside the stage disperse in pairs, that was when I knew something was wrong.
All of them who walked out from that group gathering were women, primarily mothers! Why would such happen? I didn't understand why until I asked my mom when we got home.
According to her narration, this complaint from the spiritual director was made during his last birthday and it was repeated because the committee leaders refused to listen to them just because they were women.
Since the situation wasn't handled properly those women resigned and took no part in any aspect of the planning anymore. What I discovered was that those leaders were gender biased! How would you have a whole group of event planners both men and women in their expertise and still have complaints for the second time?
This simply shows that not all voices were recognized, two heads are better than one and sometimes we have to disagree to agree and agree to disagree. If diversity of opinions was effective this second complaint won't be said.
The male gender thinks alike and the female gender thinks alike too, imagine when you have both genders spewing out knowledge and valid opinions only for it to be acknowledged because it sounds like a bright plan. If those female voices were recognized in that planning committee they wouldn't have left. People stay where they are appreciated!
Diversity of opinion is all about embracing, allowing, and accepting various perspectives of individuals on a topic without objections.
This is a response to the #hivelearners word of the week episode two - #hl-exclusive & #hl-w89e2.
