How would you not fall in love with a sport where there's always a rancor about who's the G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time). For me I'll say it is....
The game of football is easily one of the most loved sport in a country like Nigeria. The craze cannot ever be compared, I don't go around seeing people arguing over how badly LeBron James played or how over-hyped the Golden State Warriors are.
Then there's the beauty of watching young players in the streets giving it their all just to gain bragging rights among their friends. I remember those days when I couldn't go a day without heading to the field and trying hard to be among the most talked about players for that day, it's really addictive.
I can remember how agitated my Dad is whenever he's watching a game. He's screams and loud commands are like beautiful music to my ears, lol, I just don't get it but it feels good everytime. The adrenaline, that blood rush, it's something i cannot even describe both from watching and from playing.
The game of football is played between two teams of eleven players playing together to get a ball at the back of the net (which means scoring a goal). Each player has a specific role to play but they're broken down into the goal keeper, the defenders, the mid fielders and the attackers. The work of the defenders is to ensure no one comes ensure that the ball doesn't get past them and come between scoring distance. The midfielders regulate play, they are the play makers, they keep the ball in possession and try to create a scoring chance..
The attacker is the one that deals the finishing blow, even though anyone can score a goal, the attacker is one who's given such a duty. He's supposed to be skilled enough to get the ball at the back of the net. Each role has to be active enough to make a good team, there has to be a lot of skill, co-operation and understanding yo ensure one team outwits the other.
The game of football is a beautiful game and at the end of the day the overall best team is rewarded with a cup. It's funny right how grown up men would give in their all just to get a ball at the back of the net to win a cup at the long run. But that's what makes the game really beautiful. If you haven't watched a game before, I believe you should, you'll enjoy every bit of it.
