Good day, amazing people of the Hive blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivelearners community. I am so delighted to participate in this week's prompt topic, minimum wage.
I always ask myself how people are able to cope and manage with this minimum wage with the rate of hardship in our country. When you hear about minimum wage, you may think it is something huge; it is just 77,000. The minimum wage was just increased in the year 2024. The increment brought a little relief on the face of the civil servant, but currently, with the level of hardship in my country, this minimum wage is useless.
To be sincere, I always ask myself, how do these people survive with these minimum wages? I have a breakdown of how they spend their money, and I get to find out that the money is not enough to sustain them, not to talk of saving.
My elder sister is a civil servant. Her monthly salary can’t sustain the family; before the salary, they had already bought things on credit, and when their salary enters, it will be used to repay debt, and they will be left with nothing. I will not lie; I always pity them, and I always wish that they would be paid more than that because the country we see ourselves in is not funny at all; things increase on a daily basis, making life so hard for people.
When the minimum wage was increased, I saw how happy these people were, but I asked myself, what will 77,000 do for these people? For instance, in a family where there are 6 children, how will they be able to manage with 77,000 to feed the family and also pay their school fees? If we are honest, that minimum wage is too poor. When it comes to how the money helps in our day-to-day life, if I must be honest, the money is not enough; it just helps people only in a little way. At least they are able to sort little bills, but with the minimum wage, they will not grow.
If the minimum wage is doubled, people will be happy and feel relief because with the increment, life will be a little easy on them; they don’t have to overthink again, and the pressure is less on them.
But even the minimum wage is triple OMO; every civil servant will be happy because it is no longer a relief, but they can comfortably take care of their families and improve their standard of living. It is not that their life is luxury, but they are living a normal life.
Not being greedy, but with the way things are in my country, the minimum wage I will receive and I will consider myself rich is 1.5 million naira per month. With this amount, I will not have to manage life with low pay; I will be able to handle family matters comfortably without shaking. I can also develop myself and also extend hands of giving to people around me.
If I must say, minimum wage should be enough for people to live comfortably; the government should look into this minimum wage.
This is my entry on the weekly prompt #hivelearners topic minimum wage.
