I remember when I was growing up, my father would always chase us out to go to our room cause he would sit and listen to the 7 o'clock news on our local TV NTA. He would listen, and then later, he would sit outside and discuss with our neighbors; they would go on and on arguing about the news, saying facts and no facts about the growth of the country.
I will always wonder what they are talking about; as time went on, my father would ask us to change the channel to NTA, and as I wanted to enter the room. He will ask me, where are you going to, I will say My room, and he will say, "My friend sat down here and listened to the news, so you will know when they ask you to run, but no. If you want to enter your room and start chatting and disturbing the whole compound with your noise, go and call others to join you (slibing).
He will call all of us to sit down and listen to whatever they are saying on the television. As I grow up, I start listening to the news; once it is 7 o'clock, I change the channel to listen to the events of the day, but most of the news is not accurate.
In this present generation, you can get your news from anywhere, from your phone, television, radio, and even newspaper. I still listen to the news sometimes if there is light. Although I no longer watch 7 o'clock news as always but mostly 9 o'clock not only at night but day time at times. I will tune to arise TV or CNN to listen to what is happening around the world. Some kind of things I hear online, I do not believe it to an extent.
Because our government is fond of making fake promises and things that they can't do, imagine asking the citizens to give them time to work on the country's economy, only for them to make it worse, what of the news that was flying that government
want to start paying 70 Thousand naira minimum wage till today that news has died as it came. Most things said on TV are just to please the government, not necessarily the truth; even some channel that intends to tell the truth are threatened. It's mostly on social media that we get some correct news cause this social media warrior can dig out someone's past and present.
They do underground investigations just so that they can dig out facts. I do believe that certain things I get online are truer than in the news. It's funny how we get information to be careful about a particular environment via social media rather than news before it reaches all the media houses. People would have to die finish.
An incident occurred last week Saturday, I would have been a victim but cause of how tired I was, I told my friend that I couldn't go and he told me to stay back, actually, I never like anything political gathering, so I canceled and sleep, I was waking up by a call asking me to check social media, Whatsapp, that how I got the news about the shooting going on in that environment.
It was in the evening after the shooting and people had gone home that it was now announced on the radio, and people started talking about it. Not everything said in the news is true, and not all are still fake.
Love you all and stay safe
