In a world that often emphasizes our differences, it's easy to forget the fundamental fact that we are all created equally. This foundational belief is crucial in building and maintaining a just society. Without it, discrimination and inequality run rampant.
Equality has been a hot topic in recent years, with movements like MeToo and Black Lives Matter bringing attention to the ways that marginalized groups are treated unfairly. While there is still much work to be done in terms of achieving equality for all, there has been some progress made thanks to these movements. There is a general consensus among modern thinkers that everyone is entitled to equal treatment under the law, regardless of race, gender, or any other characteristic. This view is based on the belief that all human beings are deserving of dignity and respect. Many believe that equality is essential for a healthy society and that it should be promoted in all areas of life.
Of course, there are still those who hold onto outdated views on equality (or lack thereof). But overall, the tide is turning in favor of equality for all. And as more and more people come to realize that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, it's only a matter of time until we achieve true justice for all. Then are coming , the next problems. Social inequality and oppression are two of the most pressing issues facing our society. Inequality refers to how different groups in our society differ in terms of wealth, power, and opportunity. People with less power are oppressed when those with more power treat them unfairly or disadvantage them unfairly.
As I'm writing this post at the last minute, and haven't had time to research other countries, and am more familiar with US history, so we need to look back in history for answers to these problems. The United States was founded on the principle that all people are created equal. This ideal has never been fully realized. From its beginning, America has been a place where some groups have had more opportunities and privileges than others. This reality was built into the very structure of the government and economy. For example, the Founding Fathers designed a system of government that favored property owners and white men over those without property or who were not white men. This bias was baked into laws and policies that determined who could vote, own land, hold office, etc.
As the country has grown and changed, so too has the nature of social inequality and oppression. While some progress has been made towards equality, we still live in a society where race, gender, sexuality, and class continue to create significant disparities in wealth, power, and opportunity. The only way to truly achieve justice in our society is to address these underlying inequalities. We must recognize that everyone is created equal and work to dismantle the systems that perpetuate social inequality and oppression.
Controversies
Yet it's true that no matter how hard we try to create a fairer, equal world, it's an almost impossible task. If equality were to be achieved, many jobs would become redundant as there would no longer be the need for teachers. Professionals in all areas of the workforce would also become obsolete due to lack of challenge and growth. Thinking about this topic until now was something I had never done, but after some contemplation it appears so clear that this is the way it must be - a contradiction that has remained with us since ancient times. Since arriving here in the Netherlands, I have witnessed first hand how some members of certain nationalities (which make up around 70% of the workforce here) can act thinking they are better than everyone else. It is natural for some to excel at different tasks and skills - these differences enable us to learn from one another and grow together. Nevertheless if we focus too much on making others act or behave differently than they normally would, then what happens is they begin to betray themselves in order to conform with expectations.
Let our children not grow up in a terrible world. Together we can make it better. It is our destiny to
suffer from the past, to long for the future, but to forget the present.
