Late nights and I don't really get along. It used to be one of the hardest things for me to do but somehow I feel every student can't really avoid keeping late nights when the situation demands. I mostly stay up late if I have school work to complete. It could be an assignment, term paper, presentation, impromptu tests and of course examinations.
One of the major things that helps me stay up is my goal. Why am I up? I don't want to go into saying Nescafe tea helps because I can assure you that I have drank Nescafe and I still slept at night. Oftentimes if I sleep during the day and I drink coffee, it makes me restless at night. I won't be able to sleep so the ideal thing to do would be to study but if my brain isn't prepared to study it also won't be of any use because I won't remember whatever I studied if I force myself to do so.
One may wonder, how can your goal be a stronger and more effective drive to stay up at night rather than external stimuli? As earlier stated, maybe it's just how I'm wired or something I cannot explain but I honestly do sleep most of my day and still sleep at night. For me, it goes beyond external factors like pills, enough rest during the day, coffee etc.
I'm always in constant communication with my inner self. Everytime I have a task to do and I don't really have enough time during my day to get it done, I know for sure that I have to sacrifice my night. What helps me do that with ease are the few questions I answer honestly.
Why should I stay up to do this?
Possible responses could be because it's important, it will boost my result, it's mandatory.
What will happen if I don't do this?
Possible reasons could be that I'll miss the deadline, I'll fail my C A, I'll carry over the course, I'll be disappointing someone or I'll be ruining my reputation (depending on what I had to do).
What happens if I do?
I'll be pleased, satisfied, and relaxed. I stand a chance of having a great result, people will be confident in my abilities, and my team members will be proud.
This is basically me weighing my options. I look at the benefits of staying up to do what I have to do as well as the consequences of not staying up to do that thing and there I have my goal. Once I have these in mind and I know what's at stake, even sleep flies😂
Apart from this, I have come to prefer doing stuff at night than during the day even though I really hate to give up my sleeping hours. Reasons being that I stay in a really noisy environment so I enjoy the peace and quietness of the night better. Whatever I can do at this moment is often more profitable. I can get sure of getting a good result in whatever I'm working on Late at night.
Away from my main point, snacking in between work during late night helps. Good music, short breaks in between goes a long way too. This is my side of the story.
