“Without dreams and goals, there is no living, only merely existing, and that is not why we are here.“ — Mark Twain
Having joined the second edition of the newbies initiative program which is aimed at guiding newbies in the right direction on hive, we've been posed with our first ever task 😁; “Hive goals and strategies for achieving them.“ So, in this post, I'll be discussing in detail, my hive goals and the strategies I've put in place to achieve them.
You see, all my life, I've always been a goal-oriented person and like the meaning of the above quote, goals are highly substantial in life. Since my very first day on hive, I've always had a goal in mind and anytime I do something that doesn't align with my goal, I snap out of it and remind myself; “Dimma, this isn't why you're here 😏“.
Now,
What are the benefits of setting goals?
Truly, the benefits of setting goals cannot be overemphasized. In my opinion, setting goals are necessary to help one stay motivated, focused, productive and on the right track. Living without setting goals for oneself is like living without a purpose and we all know that's not an actual life. Personally, setting goals has made me more hardworking and purposeful. There's always this sense of self-mastery that comes with accomplishing my goals and even when I don't, at least I know I strived.
What are your goals as regards your Hive power, your followers, your engagement and your consistency and any other goals as a newbie here on Hive.
According to 's article, one must learn to set "SMART"(SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE, RELEVANT and TIME-BOUND) goals. So in line with that, below are my hive goals for the next 7 weeks of this program:
HIVE POWER
Currently, I have a hive power of 205.332 excluding my delegated HP and my goal is to reach 350hp in 7 weeks time. This goal is important to me because I believe the higher my hp, the higher my curation power and status on hive. Also, achieving this goal would be a stepping stone towards achieving 1k HP goal by next may (my 1year hive birthday). I believe this goal is attainable because, I usually make 10-15 HP a week.
FOLLOWERS
At the time of making this post, I have 71 followers and my goal is to reach 200 followers in 7 weeks time. Having a bigger follower base goes a long way in developing one's blog, visibility and traffic. That's why this goal is relevant to me. I wish to connect with more people and I've now taken it upon myself to grow my followers. All I need to do within seven weeks is gain approximately 130 more followers to reach my goal.
ENGAGEMENT/ CONSISTENCY
According to my hivebuzz board, I've made above 1200 comments and my goal is to make an additional 1300 comments, totaling 2500 comments. This goal is relevant because asides increasing my chances of gaining followers and visibility, staying active and engaging on hive will help improve my awareness, knowledge and dexterity in writing. I'd get to learn new things, see things from other author's perspectives and expand my social skills.
As for the area of consistency, I wish to make nothing less than 5 posts weekly and keep striving towards making at least one post daily. At the moment, I've made 100 posts and my goal is to reach 150 posts in the next seven weeks. I just need to make an additional 50 posts. This goal is relevant to me because it'll increase my chances of meeting my hp, reputation and writing improvement goals.
REPUTATION
Currently, I have a reputation of 61 and my goal is to reach 65 in the next 7 weeks. This goal means a lot to me because it'll help me stay motivated to keep dishing out quality content for curation. In general, it'll keep me more active, consistent and give me a sense of higher progression on hive. I know it won't be easy but I believe this goal is realistic and achievable because I'm just 4 percents away from reaching my goal.
What are the strategies do you want to put in place to achieve your goals?
For my HP goal, I plan to attain it through consistent posting, not just in quantity but quality as well. I'll also top up my curation activity by constantly voting on more people's posts daily and claiming curation rewards. Hopefully, if my hp payouts for a week increases to 20 or more (20hp×7weeks =140hp||140hp+ 205hp=345hp), then of course, I can achieve this goal and even surpass it too.
In order to achieve my followers goal, I plan to be more interesting and adequate with my engagement level. I'll do well to comment daily on people's posts, make friends, follow more and follow back. If I'm able to gain 20+ followers a week, then I can definitely hit 200+ followers in 7 weeks.
My strategy for attaining my engagement goal is making 5 comments each in 10 of my favorite communities like hive learners, ladies of Hive, needleworkmonday, weekendexperiences, movies and tv shows, music, Hive open mic, etc. If I'm able to make 50 comments each day, I will have made 350 comments in a week. So, I most likely will reach and even surpass my goal.
I hope to attain my consistency goal through reading more to generate ideas and inspiration, posting eye-catching content regularly, participating in contests and sometimes making two posts daily.
Lastly, to attain my reputation goal, I'll work towards posting more quality content regularly that would attract hive whales and curators for upvotes.
What do you think might hinder you from achieving your set goals?
SHORTAGE OF POWER SUPPLY
Unfortunately, I don't have a stable electricity in my area of residence, I don't have a durable phone battery neither do I have a power bank. This sorry situation has often hindered me from doing more on hive. I'm always limiting my activities here because I keep trying to manage my battery. I may not be able to change the electricity problems but I'm working hard towards getting a new phone or at least a power bank for now, so I can keep on hiving without limitations of that sort.
SCHOOL
Since the academic strike in my country has been called off, class activities will soon resume with a haste and that means, more workload. I've only been able to keep up with my level of activeness thanks to the strike but now that it's over, I'm nervous about how my hive growth will be. Especially because I'm a sucker for time-management. But God knows I'm not ready to give up on school or hive. I will see both to the end and I'll do my best to create a balance that'll work in my favour.
