Hello Hivers! Trust we're all doing great?
It's another week and that means another task from the newbies initiative. Having gone through the study materials provided by on our discord channel and having watched the live meeting recording, I can say that I've gained new in-depth knowledge of the Blockchain. And so, in this article, I'll be discussing my understanding on some basics of Hive whilst answering the specified questions for this task.
How has been your experience with Hive since you joined?
Well, I'd say my experience has been adventurous and challenging at the same time. My starting point here wasn't easy. I remember having issues with some basics that shouldn't have been much of a big deal. Stuff like sourcing, tags, markdowns and the rest of them. I was doing it all wrong untill my onboarder showed me the right way.
I was publishing posts but I wasn't really consistent at first due to some offline issues. Also, I wasn't getting much upvotes even when I put in enough effort. Honestly, it was discouraging to say the least. I also had a hard time meeting up with contest deadlines, writer's block, staying active and engaging. However, with time, things started getting better, I saw positive changes and I got clearer understanding.
This makes me proud of the fact that I remained resilient and relentless. So, in essence, Hive has made significant impact on my life. Not only has it been my support system but also an upliftment in my personal growth as a content creator. And it's pretty much visible in my writing skills which has greatly improved overtime and is still a work in progress.
Why is plagiarism frowned upon on Hive?
Plagiarism as we all know is simply the stealing of one's content either texts, ideas or images and using it as your own without permission or giving credit to the original owner. Now, the word “stealing” is enough to understand why plagiarism is frowned upon. It is a punishable offense on hive because this Blockchain is all about original content. Here, everybody uses their own brains to dish out valuable content. You can't simply copy and paste someone else's hard work and get rewarded. You'll have to face the wrath of your action.
Explain why the use of tags is very important on Hive.
Like I mentioned earlier, I used to have issues using the right tags when I recently joined hive. I didn't know much about them, all I knew was that it was necessary to include them. I didn't know their importance neither did I know their differences. I would often just copy the tags other people used. But now, I no longer use irrelevant tags or wrong tags.
I've come to understand that tags are very important for visibility on the Blockchain. If you want your posts to get seen by curators or target audience then you must use the right tags that are relevant to your post. Let's say for instance, I make a cooking post, I ought to use the “food” tag in it. It shows what my post is about. Imagine making a post about finance but exempting the “leofinance” tag, isn't that a loss? Not only would you lose your target audience and chance to be curated but you'd also lose your tokens.
Oh yes! And that brings us to another importance of tags on hive. Through the use of tags on your post, you get to earn tokens that you can in turn sell for money. Most communities come with their own tags and this helps to keep in touch with their posters and reward them as well.
List some general tags you know on Hive. Explain the differences between this tags.
Having talked about the importance of tags, here are some examples of general tags on hive:
- Neoxian
- Proofofbrain
- Palnet
- Vyb
- Indiaunited
- Creativecoin
- Hive
Whereas these tags can be used in any sort of post, they're not all the same. They belong to their respective tribes and can yield tribe tokens when used. For instance the proofofbrain tag belongs to the Proofofbrain tribe. The neoxian tag belongs to the city of Neoxian community, and the creativecoin tag belongs to the Creative coin community, etc.
Wrong use of tags can attract downvotes or warnings. For instance, using the leofinance tag on a post that isn't related to finance topics. Most people make this error to attract upvotes but it's a big risk if caution isn't taken.
In conclusion, it's important to know these basics of Hive as they're relevant to ensuring a smooth blogging journey on the Blockchain. Awareness is often spread on the knowledge of plagiarism, tags and their use so that newbies don't fall a victim to consequences of ignorance.
