You don't want to work for so long and have your efforts blown away in a moment. Therefore, understanding the way security works on Hive is a very important part of learning on Hive.
Reading the tutorial by and watching the tutorial video by
have made me understand the following as regards Hive Keys and Security:
1- βπππΌ ππΌππ πβππππ» πΉπΌ ππΌβπ ππππΌ πΎπππ»:
If you own a maserati, you would surely keep the keys where only you and yours have access to it.
In fact, your brother might probably not know where you keep the keys. Not because you hate him, but because of the amount of value you attach to the car.
The same goes for your Hive account. Your keys control everything about your Hive activities.
For no reason should you use your keys indiscriminately without caution.
Here's an overview of what your keys are for:

Despite having a good grasp of what keys are for and when to use them, you can still lose control of your account, especially via scam click baits that have the capacity to seize your account when you click on them.
For one reason or the other, scammers can get your permission into your account via simply clicking on a link. Scammers therefore use click baits to achieve this on a large scale.
If you see any post that promises ridiculous amounts of Hive for doing such simple things as voting for a project or something of that sort, just AVOID THEM LIKE A PLAGUE. Hardly would you find anyone giving 100 Hive or so for just voting.
Once you click a scam bait, you almost immediately lose access to your account. It's that simple.
Be wise.

Use keys appropriately. Where you only need your posting key, don't go around using your owner key.
You have no need using some keys. Most of the time, you'll probably only use your Posting and Active key for most transactions.
4)) βπβπΌ π½πβ πβπΌ πΉπΌππ πΉππ βππΈβ π½πβ πβπΌ ππβππ
Generally speaking, for anything you do in the world of crypto, tokens and the blockchain, you should always have this notion at the back of your mind. Though secure, the world of crypto and the blockchain is pretty volatile.
In the same way, be ready for anything that might go wrong as regards security.
Like I said earlier, anyone can be scammed. From what I mentioned, you would understand that it only takes a link for someone to get scammed.
Therefore, one must prepare for it.
And that takes me to the next part of this post, recovering your account.
From what I learned in this post, you need to first find out who the Trustee to your account is.
A trustee is attached to every account.
Find yours here
https://hiveblocks.com/@username
After that you can visit this site
https://reazuliqbal.com/HiveAccountRecovery/
to generate a Public Owner Key which you send to the account of your Trustee.
Then, you can move on with recovering the account on the same website.
This should be a straightforward process if you follow the prompts.
Other things I think you should do to protect your keys:
KEEP YOUR KEYS IN SECURE PLACES
Your keys shouldn't be left lying on accessible grounds on your mobile device, laptop or anywhere for that matter.
Anyone can check out your device, your device can get lost. Anything can happen to information kept solely on your device.
You probably even don't want to trust cloud storage systems for it.
Keep it where you're DOUBLE SURE it's safe.
I have friends who even recommend keeping them with your parentsπ
, and just having the Active and Posting key, since that's what is routinely used for day to day activities.
I won't keep mine with my parents tho'ππ
But I hope you get the gist.
USE TRUSTED BROWSERS
Its not like I know any particular browsers that steal information, but I advise using browsers that are at least tested and trusted by the majority.
Don't use a random browser from anywhere to execute your Hive activities.
I know Chrome, Firefox and Brave browsers are good browsers.
There are a lot of other good browsers one can use, but the idea is to just cover all grounds and be safe.
PUT YOUR HIVE APPS IN A SECURE SPACE ON YOUR DEVICE
Many of us like to have easy access to our accounts by creating Homescreen shortcuts and the likes.
In creating such, we can access our Hive pages from Homescreen without needing to log in often.
As good as that sounds, that simply means anyone who has access to your device homepage, can have access to your Hive apps and in essence have access to your wallet.
Can you feel where I'm going with this?
I think it's just better to keep your Hive account where you keep things like bank apps and apps you treasure basically.
It's better to be safe than sorry.
NEVER SCREENSHOT YOUR PRIVATE KEYS OR SHARE THEM ON A VIDEO CALL
This may sound somehow, but I don't think one should screenshot your Hive keys.
Keep it as a document.
More often than not, most people don't take account of the screenshots they take on their devices. Anyone could get them from your gallery.
More so, most of us inadvertently back up the pictures on our phones to the cloud. So in such a case, we can say we automatically upload our keys online without even knowing.
Showing your private keys on video or zoom calls is not necessary. Don't share screen and show your Private Keys!
Unshare your screen when you want to open your keys document.
HAVE A MENTOR ON HIVE
This cannot be overemphasised. No matter how well accomplished you become on Hive, have someone you are accountable to, someone who can watch out for you and have oversight to an extent over your activities.
This alone will save you a lot of stress.
I had a fellow Hiver and friend who got scammed recently but was able to recover the account in no time because he was accountable to someone who was sort of a mentor to him.
This is one of the reasons why I really vibe with the Hive onboarding program. It gives some solid intentionality to people who join by been onboarded by someone.
Taking security measures serious will go a long way in ensuring that you keep your head high and shielded from potential troubles.
Selah.
