Cancer is possibly the most feared and fearful disease of all that affect humanity and is without cure. However, in recent decades, there has been rapid increase in scientific evidence that eating certain foods has a great deal to do with cancer. It is truly ironic that foods which should provide health and life, should be the principal cause of cancer and death.
The bulk of the developed world's population have an erroneous dietary habit of eating too many animal-based foods, which foster cancer, in proportion to plant-based foods, which help protect against it. We are going to look at some keywords under this topic:
• CANCER: An uncontrolled proliferation of cells producing a malignant tumor. It invades surrounding tissues and may entail METASTASIS (other tumors of the same type appearing far from the original site). It natural evolution leads to death.
• CARCINOGENS: Food, substance or other agent that fosters development of cancer. The most common carcinogens are tobacco smoke, certain food additives such as nitrites, the substance that form during the cooking of meat, chemical contaminants such as pesticides, some viruses and molds, and radiation.
• MUTAGENS: Substances that produce mutations or changes in the genetic code of cells. Many of these mutation cause cell to become cancerous. This, mutagens are also carcinogens and they form when foods, particularly meat products are fried or roasted.
• ANTICARCINOGENS: These are foods or substances that neutralizes the action of carcinogens and slows or prevents development of cancer. Virtually all ANTICARCINOGENS are plant-based.
This means a more plant-based diet is advised for the prevention of cancer.
To reduce cancer risk, avoid or reduce your consumption of:
• Cured meats( sausages, bacon, etc) grilled or fried meats.
• Excess calories from animal protein or fat sources.
• Smoked, pickled, salted or highly spiced foods.
• Consuming very hot foods and beverages
CANCER PREVENTION requires an increase in
• provitamin A and vitamin C &E
• Fiber
• Phytochemical elements.
All these foods components have been experimentally and epidemiologically shown to be anticarcinogens. They are found almost exclusively in plant based foods.
In summary, more plant-based food is advised for a healthy dietary habit. Stay healthy!
