Holla readers and fellow bloggers it is another edition of creative writing a courtesy of hive learners community titled "One great lesson" which is centered on lesson learnt during the time spent this year.
Life is full of Lessons, which are very crucial in creating and formulating our personality making us the best we could, it could be negative or positive either of the two makes impact on our lives. some of the lessons I have learnt this year is centered on how to commercialise on skills.
At one point in our lives we discover that we possess some specific talent or skill which is only attributed to us but in some cases we forget or pay no attention on commercialising on it.
In my own case, as a student I posses a lot of digital skills especially when it has to do with the web, after my admission at moshood abiola Polytechnic I got accustomed to the school website so fast which gives me the ability to make payment without having to go to school market and also when it comes to any broadcast related skill such as script writing, filming, creation of advert templates, jingle for radio. which i assisted a lot of my colleagues in getting their registration done and payment of school fees and any broadcast related assignment and practicals. little did I know that such skill could earn me some cool cash.
I got overwhelmed by the praises I got from my peers who enjoy getting such services done
for free. humans show of affection is very tricky, I got swam of friends around me due to the services I rendered for free, I knew I got the skill but I felt somethings in life should be free. let me quickly explain the concept of commercialisation of skill.
In a simple term, this is an act of attributing a particular cost to a service rendered by an individual, it is the process of requesting for charges for labour or an attribute of a person. it allows an individual to earn money by just exhibiting specific skill.
After HND2 second semester exam this year I realised majority of the friendly gestures I received was due to the free service I was rendering and it didn't really helped my financial instability and I realised that whenever I am in the same situation and request for such help from the same people with the mindset that I will be treated the same way I have treated them but it didn't happen like that. they didn't hesitate to request for money for services rendered.
It took me awhile to realise people taught I was a fool for my generosity, so bit by bit I started requesting for charges for services rendered, firstly I created poster for my business, which includes online registration and other related services. thanks to a friend who introduced canva to me which assisted me in creating different designs for my business.
Example of such designs I created for my business by using canva are:

Though they were some kind of negative reactions from my friends who wanted to keep enjoying the services for free, I had to create boundaries which resulted to some kind of bad blood between me and them, The numbers of friends I had drastically reduced and some of them Prefered to go outside and pay for such services than patronising me, I paid no attention to their actions I just kept on doing my own thing.
I made a lot of profit from the business which assisted my academic career, I used a lot of the income to finance myself and pay for my practicals. On the long run it was worth it, so far this is one of the greatest lesson I have learnt this year
