Everyone is wired in a way that makes each individual unique, the little things we consider as an habit becomes a routine. In order to ensure a stable and a productive mind, from time to time, we create time to reflect on our actions. How this is done and time, depends on when it is convenient for every individual. For some, it might be about a specific place they feel safe and secure, a place that gives them a room to think. For others, it is all about a time dedicated for reflection, either of these two becomes a place or moment of reflection.
For me, it is never about a place or time. Each individual definition of self reflection differs. Most people consider it as an act that occured once in awhile. A time when they stand still and watch everything else rush by them. Like a rare occasion like birthdays or Christmas celebration, I mean the kind of event with a set time and date. I find it quite Ironic, considering how fast time moves and how noisy the human world is, yet we humans dedicate few times in a year, month, weeks to reflect.
There are people who go through self reflection by chance or accident. Probably something happened to them and got them thinking about their lives, where they are ending to. We all encounter such situations that forces us to think about our being, the kind of experience that affects us in ways we can't explain but we definitely see it as a sign, to reflect.
I don't think I ever needed such, my mind works in a miraculous way. I'm not trying to sound special, I'm just trying to give you an hint of how my brain is wired. When you ask people, what is the first thing you do in the morning? they pause for a while to recollect, it could be anything. For me, it is just one thing, to think. I consider it a routine check.
Just like the way sensible drivers, do a routine check on their cars every morning to prepare or prevent surprises. It is a matter of choice though, I mean some could choose not to do so and probably find themselves get stranded on the road. At that moment nobody cares to ask the important questions, we all blame the car for not being up to the task.
Every morning when I wake up, from the moment I open my eyes and the fresh breeze of a new day touches my skin, I get reminded of things left undone. To discover how far I have gotten, I need to reminisce on the past. It takes just a brief moment, it is something my mind has gotten used to, in fact my mind needs it before I can be capable of coming up with new task for the day.
The truth is, the most quiet time of the day is before sunrise, when the rest of the world is still asleep. The air is still fresh, no noise or distraction, just me and my thoughts. I never needed a time or place, for me; it is a daily routine.
