I wouldn't claim to know all about life because I'm still trying to figure it out. Occasionally I have discussed about different principles I have acquired over the years that I consider to be a code I operate by. What is the code you live by? It is not just one but then, I will try to keep it simple. One of the code i built my life around, is "hard work pays".
My perspective about hardwork is contrary to what people might believe it to be. Hardwork is core attribute of human beings despite the fact that it doesn't guarantee success but it is a path to it. Working hard puts you in the position whereby you have the privilege to earnest your skill to earn your pay. The reward for hardwork is definite, which is also in two categories the instant reward and the overall reward as the process of hardwork continues.
To an extent every human is aware of the reward of hardwork and we are conscious of the hardwork process but this is not the case for luck. People understanding about the concept of luck differs base and their beliefs, some believe it to be sone sort of miracle, natures wonder but in overall it is considered as a reward of something without being worked for or an opportunity being offered without earning it. It might seem like that but not all the time, there are times whereby we got lucky because of how much time and hardwork you have put in the process.
How did come about this code? It is one of the things life teaches us along the line. Example of such was when I was working at Lagos traffic radio during ciwes and industrial training. I went there for ciwes first which was a 6 month program. I was assigned to the news room along with many other ciwes, I.T student including Corps members. The room was a little crowded. our primary assignment was to source for news from different sources to be compiled into a bulletin and given to the senior editor who will eventually take it to the studio to be broadcasted.
Getting there I was a little nervous because there are a lot university students whom I considered to be more knowledgeable than I'm, eventually I found out I was wrong. I started putting in the work to make sure I meet up with every hourly traffic news, most times I ended up sourcing for about 8-9 news story for a bulletin which is the maximum number of news story to be inserted into the bulletin according to Lagos traffic radio rules and regulations guiding the structure of a bulletin
Mind you as at then, ciwes student don't get paid, it was more of a voluntary work. Most people don't really take it seriously because they were working for free, but I at the other hand I saw it as an opportunity to learn more skills especially the practical aspect of it and as at then I had this passion for journalism, so working there was like a dream come through. As time goes on I never knew the amount of work I put in working as an editor made me stand out among other students in the news room. Eventually our senior editor started handling two shifts, he was working as a senior editor in the news room and also in the Studio. so he needed someone to stand in for him whenever he is in the studio.
I was called and appointed sub-editor to the senior editor, it came as a surprise because I had one of the lowest qualifications in the room, I was just a ciwes student, a 100L {ND1} Polytechnic student among many other University student who are in 200L undergoing their industrial training and Corp members doing their duties in the designated place for primary assignment.
To some people at that moment might have felt I was undeserving of that post or I got lucky but the truth was that my hardwork that paid off, it wasn't just luck. I was given that opportunity because I had proven myself. There was something the chief editor editor said that day, he said, "for someone like you who is willing to work hard for free, what do you think you would do if you start getting paid".
That certainly proves that there are times where by our passion to work hard put us on a path that attracts luck and opportunities to us, it can't be said that it was something undeserving or you didn't work for it, it came because times without number you have paid your dues through your sweat. Has this code had any positive impact in my life? Yeah it has. It made me have more faith in my own capabilities.
