It's no new news again that one of Nigeria mandatory service is the national youth service corps with it's abbreviation (NYSC). According to research, this service was established in the year 1973 on the 22nd may. Although the scheme was conceived after the civil war of 1967 as a means to solidify the federal government of Nigeria agenda of reconciliation, reconstruction and rehabilitation for national integration.
This scheme is a one year program which usually kick start with an intensive 21 days camp approximately (three weeks) that comprises of man o' war drilling (military style), and lots of other exciting things to learn from such as cosmetology, diy projects etc. After realizing the government ment well for her citizens as to why it led to the enactment of the scheme for the Nigeria youths am absolutely sure a lot have benefited from this which makes me even eager, quietly awaiting the day my turn comes.
Although some see this as a waste of their time but to many it's an opportunity to actually plan their life while serving their fathers land. Of course I have a lot of friends and aunts who are through with their NYSC program and I can boldly say some make good used of it while the rest went and just while away time including resources. One of whom I am truly proud of and inspired me that truly NYSC isn't a waste as many claim is my aunt who served four years ago. During her service year, she ensured to save her allowance fee of 33k and was using only what her ppa (primary place of assignment) gave her. Though she was lucky because the ppa she was sent to serve the people living there were so nice to her which even encouraged her the more to continue with her savings. Truth be told it was difficult with lots of tempting stuffs coming from left, right, center. π She has to forfeit lots of things like spending extravagantly on hairs, expensive dinnings with colleagues and so many other things. Trust me when I say I know how difficult it was for her all those while but determination kept her going that too knowing fully well the shege other graduates pass through to get a white collar.
To finally cut the long story short, my dearest aunt came back home with a total savings of three hundred thousands (300k) after her program. Bet you want to know what she used it for? π Well she opened a fabric shop where she invested all the money into and till today her shop only gets bigger and bigger. I actually brought this up to tell how this mandatory service has shaped the life of it's youth..... Ooooops!!! I almost forget to mention that some youths also found their missing ribs during their service year. π€£π€£ indeed it is reconciling, and reconstructing people together. π€£
But then when it comes to proper security measures it would gladen everyone the more if the government takes drastic steps to ensure that no life is lost as a result of insecurity.
