I have always been a lover of sugar since when I was in boarding school, I love anything sugary because my mother always buys lots of provisions for me anytime I go back to school, and she usually adds a pack of cubes of sugar with it.
I inculcated the habit of eating sugar alone without mixing it with anything, be it Garri or tea, I love to put one cube of sugar in my mouth anytime I feel like my mouth seems empty and dry, eating sugar is a habit that everyone corrected me about but instead to leave it, I derived joy in it.
I can never do a day without taking sugary stuff like chilled Pepsi, coke, or Fanta this is because my mother was selling all of this at home, anytime we are on holiday I am always the one to stay and help my mother to sell in her shop so I have access to everything in the shop for that period.
My mother stopped selling provisions when I graduated from secondary school because I was mature then and she said all these sugary items were not good for my health, she started selling soap and it was very difficult for me that year, I started limiting my sugar intake because she also stopped buying it at home instead she will buy Honey and I am not a lover of honey like the way I love sugar.
I disciplined myself to stop consuming lots of sugary stuff but it was so difficult for me, instead of taking one soda per day I reduced it to twice a week which is on Sunday and any other day but that Sunday is very compulsory.
When I was in my 200 level I had a terrible sickness that landed me in the hospital, I spent close to a month and the doctor told me to stop eating sugar if I still cherished my life, I had severe pain in my stomach for weeks, that was when I decided to stop eating sugar, I stopped anything called soda till date, I do not like it all, I see sugar as something disgusting to me now, I prefer normal juice, I made my juice and store them in my refrigerator, I stopped buying juice outside.
My mother introduced honey in the home and this has been helping me whenever I need a sweetener for any of my juice then I would use sweetener since I stopped using sugar.
My advice to people who can't do without sugar, you can be enjoying the merry now but the side effects are very bad, stay away from eating too much sugar, it is very unhealthy for the body, and too much of it can lead to diabetes and damage your body system.
One of the things that helped me to stop using finally was when I joined the no sugar/soda challenge organized by my friend, this challenge was for 30 days, and this helped me to take off my mind completely from eating sugar after I was discharged from the hospital.
If it is very hard for you to stop eating sugar then you can discipline yourself to take this challenge, it works like magic if you put your mind to get off your addiction.
