Science is a good thing. It has done so much for us. If not for science, maybe we won’t have the medicine that cures sickness today or the machines that make work easier. Even the phone I’m using to type this is because of science. But sometimes, I sit and wonder... has science gone too far? Not everything that science gives us is good. Some things are simply not needed. One of those things, in my own opinion, is nuclear weapons.
Honestly, I don’t like the idea of nuclear weapons. I feel they are one of the biggest mistakes man has made with science. Why would humans create something that is meant to destroy millions of people within minutes? I don’t get it. Why are countries proud to have weapons that can wipe out an entire city just like that? What is the use? I keep thinking about this and the more I think, the more I feel we don’t need such things on this earth.
Let’s look at Iran and Israel for example. These two countries have been at each other’s neck for years. They are just fighting with bombs, not advanced weapons, and see how everything has turned upside down. There is heat in these two countries as we speak, they have been firing war against each other, all these are through the help of the weapon science built, and now everyone is feeling the heat, no peace in these two countries, they have been sending bombs to each other to destroy their countries, what they had labored for gone within a second, I watched the news and I saw how houses were burnt, companies were destroyed, lives were lost all in the name of these weapons.
Nuclear weapons are not like other weapons. They are dangerous in every way. If they explode in a place, the land there becomes useless for years. No farming. No clean water. No animals. No life. The people who survived the blast will still suffer later because of the radiation. Cancer, strange sicknesses, babies being born with problems. It’s just too bad. And this is what humans are still keeping in their countries as “protection.” How can destruction be called protection? I don’t understand.
Some people say that these weapons stop big wars because no country wants to attack another that has nuclear power. They say it brings balance, but I disagree, this is an act of callousness, this weapon kills and no one will be able to survive it. I feel this is not the way to find peace. Peace should be because we understand each other, not because we are afraid of dying in a blast.
Now that Iran and Israel have started everyone is scared of World War 3 because I am not sure if one is going to stop for the other, they keep on threatening each other and if things go south other countries like America, Russia, and China may also join in, and before you know it, World War 3 has started and this one won’t be like the old wars. This one can finish the world.
I sometimes feel sad that science has brought us to this point. Instead of using knowledge to make life sweeter, we are using it to create fear. I don’t see any good in nuclear weapons. No matter how they try to explain it, it still sounds wrong to me. Why make something you can’t even use without destroying yourself too? It makes no sense.
I wish all the countries in the world would throw away these weapons and agree to find peace in a better way. Talking, understanding, and forgiving that’s the way peace should come. Not by fear and not by bombs. But maybe this is just me dreaming. Maybe the world is not ready to drop fear yet.
Science has really gone far. But I believe this is one area where it has gone too far. Nuclear weapons should never have been made. They are not a blessing. They are a curse. I hope one day the world will realize this before it is too late.
