One of the most remarkable thing in life is to be born and raised well in a family. However, nowadays it takes alot to be raised well in a family even as good parenting is becoming below par. There are alot of exposure (both positive and negative) where young ones are exposed to and which had great impact on what they turned out to. For example, by unguided viewing of scenes, clips on social media, it can register a wrong perspective to life on the mind of the young ones and influences them negatively.
Also, we need to come to the realization of the fact that any system that compromises justice is a bad system even as justice must be upheld and evil punished. Crimes can be committed by both adults and young ones which shouldn't be overlooked. However, it is pertinent to know that crimes committed by young ones shows a systemic failure somewhere which may be from the family, society or nation at large. Under the law here in my country, any children who committed crime and is under 18years old is kept in Juvenile homes till they reach 18years.
I believe for such crimes which such children perpetrated or committed, for justice sake mustn't be overlooked but be tendered with mercy. I believe if some of the children are raised well or knows better, they wouldn't have committed such crimes. But as a lesson and deterrent to others, they should face the wrath of the law but tendered with mercy. I strongly believe that the family been the unit of the society and a foundation of the society should be given the necessary attention. As someone who believes in justice and loves justice, it is good that justice is served to such minors though with mercy.
In addition, when such minor faced the wrath of the law, rehabilitation should follow such and if well rehabilitated, i believe such can be a great asset to the nation. Everybody has at one time or the other did wrong or missed even though the gravity varies, the difference is just about the extent/gravity and how managed or corrected. I'm of the opinion that the government, individuals, society, family should take up their respective responsibilities for a sane an safer society. Juvenile crime is true and i believe is multifaceted, however, justice can also be served with mercy and not denied.
In all, justice must never be denied though for minor served mercy. The major goal should be rehabilitation unto a productive living rather than punishment only. No one should be written off because of the ugly past, such minors when rehabilitated can be the leaders of their generation. Also, we need to go back to the foundation of active parenting and not a passive one. Family is key and every child deserves to be raised well and inculcated with the right values.
