How can I drop this entry without acknowledging the organisation? Special thanks to all the management for this initiative. This is week 08 Edition 01 with a life challenging topic which I regard with high esteem because of its reality especially in the niche where I live in my beloved country.
The questions are;
What are the major causes of pollution in your area? Are they vehicles, industries, or just humans? Suggest ways in which this can be rectified.
Before I proceed with this question, it's expedient that I define pollution. Pollution is contamination of the environment as a result of release of harmful substances which could be in solid or liquid or gaseous state.
What are the major causes of pollution in your area?
I Hail from the west African region of Africa where there are lots causes of pollution however I intend to highlight the major.
POOR WASTE MANAGEMENT
This cause affects my area greatly. There is poor waste control. Some of these waste scattered across even some residential areas thereby causing havoc to both biotic and abiotic ecosystem.
These waste could be decay able or the one that doesn't decay.
AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Some of the agricultural activities practice today causes pollution. When fertilisers are applied to crops close to stream or river when it rains, these are washed into the body of water thereby making the water portable for life to survive.
INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITY
This is also a major cause of pollution in my locality. Industry is supposed to be sited off the residential areas so that the waste and others could be properly disposed. When unwanted materials are released from the industry, some of them goes directly to the environment for instance heavy duty machine could release carbon monoxide from the exhaust which pollutes the air and darken some buildings.
SEWAGE AND WATER CONTROL
This kind causes a lot of harm to aquatic life.
When sewage from kitchen aren't channel correctly, it goes to the stream, pond etc which affects the fishes and other animals in the water. This also affects water for house use in the stream, river and possibly well.
As I earlier itemized that what causes pollution could either be solid waste or liquid waste or gaseous waste therefore when any of them is released causes pollution.
Hmmmm is not only vehicle or machine that causes this oooo but industry and even human beings.
How can these be rectified?
I think both the government and individuals have a pivotal role here. The government should bring out policy and waste management control agencies in order to apprehend culprit. A law should be set with penalties. Notice Caan be placed on wall and bill boards.
There is need to have disposal areas. Some waste can be burnt and individuals are encouraged to dig out to bury diets.
Waste cans can be kept in offices and schools to avoid littering of papers and other materials in the environment.
Agricultural extension workers should be properly empowered in order to sensitise farmers on the usage of fertilisers and other products application in the farm.
There should be drainages across residential houses and also soak way.
Pollution is everyone's responsibility in order to have a healthy environment.

CONCLUSION
Pollution is not good. It kills and causes harm.
