Having people trust you is something anyone would want, and it's not an easy thing to get. A trust broken is like telling the person not to believe you again, and when it is done to family, there is no greater pain than breaking a promise to your family.

The hive learner has given me another opportunity to share a story that would inspire a lot of people with the topic: Have you ever broken a promise you made to a person? Why did you do that? How did this affect your relationship? Are you both still close? Please share with us. The promise I broke wasn’t just to anyone but to my siblings and parents. Here we go.
It was Saturday night, and the power holding company refused to restore electricity, which made it difficult to do some things at home. We were unable to cook that night; all we had was bread and some cocoa tea. I could tell my little brother wasn’t satisfied with what he ate, and my sisters were looking hungry. Well, everyone was hungry and hoping that the light would be restored soon so we could make a good dish. It got dark and the electricity wasn’t restored, so we went to bed like that.
The following day came swiftly; it was a Sunday, and it is mandatory that we all go to church. I told my parents I wouldn’t be able to go to church because I wasn’t feeling too good. They thought about it for a while before giving their approval. My parents are church lovers, and they have brought us up in this way. Before leaving for church, they requested I make some boiled rice and stew because everything is ready to be made. I reluctantly agreed to it.
Back then, I was very lazy; I don’t like doing any chores, and I would leave home to my friends place very early to avoid doing anything in the morning, then come home later when I knew for sure that the food was ready. This has been my daily routine, but on this Sunday they asked me to make a promise that I would prepare the food if the light came, to which I agreed.
They all left for church, and I was home relaxing. I made cocoa tea for myself and laid down on the couch. A few hours later, electricity was restored. The first thing that came to mind was to get my gadget charged and play some video games. It's been a while since I found myself home alone; I wasn’t allowed to play my video game when everyone was around. Just a game or two won't hurt before I start cooking, right?
I played the game for hours without realizing it; it was when the electricity went off again that I realized the mess I had gotten myself into. I was pacing the living room, praying that the electricity would be restored, but nothing happened. My parents and siblings came back from church hoping to meet some food on the table, but I crushed that hope they had in me. I broke their trust and their promise.
They were really disappointed in me; they stopped talking to me or allowing me to partake in anything they were doing. It was worse than any other punishment. I sought forgiveness, but as time went on, they forgave me, and I was back in the fold. There is a saying
Blood is thicker than water.
Since then, I have changed my ways and learned to keep any promises made to my family.
