Hello all this is and this is my post submission of this week's topic.
In India, we frequently hear a lot of odd mysterious stories. Various conspiracy theories are developed from some of these stories, and I once believed one of them for a very long time. I used to believe that the government was secretly spraying chemicals from airplanes to control the population and even the weather. I accepted that without questioning it back then, even if it seems silly now.
How I Fell for It:
My schoolmate was the one who originally told me about the whole thing. He highlighted that the lengthy white streaks that airplanes create in the sky were not simply water vapor. He said that the lines were chemicals that the government was releasing into the atmosphere.
I thought the whole concept was fascinating as a teenager. I felt that we were in some sort of movie whenever I saw those white streaks in the sky, reminding me of what my friend had told me. I looked it up on Google and saw a few videos in these videos, they were speaking so confidently about it and used technical scientific terminology that sounded important but I didn't really know about it which eventually started to make sense and I believed in it.
How did I come to know that It was not true?
I didn't doubted this conspiracy theory until I was a college student. My physics professor clarified how airplanes really produce those "contrails," or white trails, during our lesson. He stated that these lines are formed due to the mix of hot and cold gasses from the airplane's exhaust and atmosphere and it is a simple and well-known scientific and natural phenomenon. It made me wonder if I had been mistaken all along. So, this time, I did an extensive research using trustworthy sources. It became more and more clear to me as I read on that the theory was nothing more than a set of unproven claims. I felt a little guilty for having accepted it for so long.
The Conspiracy Theory Issue:
I'm lucky that my belief in this notion only caused me to waste time thinking about it. However, I became aware of the potential harm conspiracy theories can cause to society. These concepts are infectious, and via social media and other such platforms, they have the unjustifiable power to generate fear among people. They might even result in actual issues.
Conspiracy theories have, for instance, flared violent incidents, such as riots by untrue allegations about particular populations. Some people thought that 5G towers were causing damage to humans by spreading the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, it can be quite dangerous for people to stop defending others and themselves when they think that things like vaccinations are harmful.
Conclusion:
we need to make sure that we are getting information from trusted sources and not from anyone out there and then we can pass on the information as in today's time information is an important part of life and it spreads more faster than wildfire in a jungle.
