Staying fit can also be referred to as living healthy and we all have a different approach to it. The benefit of staying fit is numerous, anyone joking with a healthy life is walking on a dangerous path to illness or diseases.
For me, the idea of staying fit doesn't end with hitting the gym or running for 3hours every day. I got to realize a few years ago that the things we do when we aren't exercising matter as well because they all sum up to keeping the body fit. In other words, my staying fit routine doesn't end with just physical exercise.
Imagine burning so much calories at the gym once or twice a week and eating so many fatty foods for the rest of the week. Would that make the exercise have a great impact on our body?
I haven't done any strenuous usual exercise for some time now because of my tight daily schedule and leg muscle issues. For many people like myself, 24hrs is usually not enough for us to perform our everyday tasks so how do we spare hours for working out at the gym or jogging?
A few years ago when I was doing the 8 am -5 pm job, I didn't have spare time for exercise because I work Monday-Saturday. I started gaining weight and it gave me lots of concern.
To help myself, I started walking some distance that I normally cover with a motorcycle and it worked. I lost the job and started doing some exercise at a nearby football field but I didn't do that for long because I got into blogging.
I was new to it and I spend most of the day tapping either my phone screen or PC keyboard. The urge to continue engaging for higher reward wouldn't even inspire me to go for an exercise but there were things I was doing that I wasn't paying attention to.
Things went on like that for quite some time before fish farming came into the picture for me. Thanks to the farm work, my staying routine became a fixed one.
My Staying Fit Routine
- Exercising
- Eating healthy
- Sleeping right.
These three things have become part of my life and they just happen naturally for me.
Every day, I wake up between 5 am -5:30 am. I have siblings who are in junior school so I prepare breakfast after my short morning devotion because that's one of the family legacies. Skipping breakfast is prohibited except for some reasons.
I do go to the farm before 7 am, the journey to and fro the farm plus the farm activity takes me an hour which covers my morning exercise. I trek for 40-45 minutes every morning and this little exercise awakens my mind.
I take breakfast after freshening up later in the morning before doing other things. I mostly skip lunch which is okay for me and I do visit the farm again in the evening which is another hour of exercise for me.
I love to have my dinner early so that the food would digest before going to bed.
Eating healthy is one thing I take as a priority because it is impossible to stay fit without eating healthy meals.
Physical fitness will help build strong muscles and bones but the things you take through your mouth into your belly are what would help build a strong defensive system against germs and diseases when they attack.
One thing many of us are ignorant about is that, the energy needed for exercise comes from eating healthy. Aside from eating a balanced diet, taking enough vegetables and fruits, the time we eat matters a lot.
Breakfast is important because the body requires lots of energy to get the day started, likewise lunch and dinner. Eating at the accurate time matters a lot as well, every meal should be taken at the right time.
When bed calls, I don't hesitate to honor the call. Sleeping right is quite important as well, our body needs to recuperate after the daily stress, and sleeping right makes that happen.
There was a time I force myself to stay up just to engage online and it didn't work out well for me. The things I will normally do in 30 mins took me two hours because I was doing them at the wrong time.
Sleeping right helps recover lost energy and I always wake up ready to take on the day's challenges.
I might not do push ups, squat, or jog everyday but my staying fit routine is effective and has kept me strong.
