Hello and a happy mothers Day to us all, mothers are real-life superheroes and deserve to be celebrated all year long for their care and all the selfless support they render to us from babies even to adulthood, they never relent in caring and supporting us a hundred percent, God bless us mothers.
It's yet another creative Sunday episode in the hive learners community, and as usual, I will be sharing with us the creative process of how I made the beautifully designed dress, making a dress from start to finish is so satisfying watching every bit of the process, especially when its finished look is perfect as desired, even more than desired.
For today's dress, I made use of African print fabric, also known as ankara, because they give the best outcome when it comes to an owambe(party) outfit, Sunday's church outfit, or just casual wear, ankara fabric could easily fit into any moment, with just a little change in the styles.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process of this stylish yet simple-to-make dress.
Materials/Tools used include;
- ankara fabric
- sample lace fabric
- zipper
- Matching thread
Scissors and my sewing machine.
PROCESS
- I started by drafting and cutting the patterns needed, here is my front pattern
- And here, the back pattern which is a double pattern
- Using the sample lace fabric, I traced the neckline of the front pattern, then made a V shape to the middle below the waist.
- using an ankara strip of 7 inches on fold, I pleated it around the V-shaped lace fabric,
- Next, I placed the pleated designed V shape on the front of the front pattern, stitching it in place, and also turned the neckline using a facing
- I joined both back piece patterns together, also attaching a zipper, and I also turned its neckline using a facing.
- I joined the already prepared front pattern to the back by the sides and shoulders and also hemmed the base.
- Time for the sleeves pattern, which is made by combining a basic and flare sleeve pattern.
- I prepared the sleeves by attaching both pieces then, joined them to the already prepared bodice
Here is the outcome of this pretty and uniquely designed dress.
The mannequin is not giving enough justice because the dress is owned by a more big and bold lady, my mannequin needs to add up more weight, lol 😂😂 anyway, it came out as great as expected, and the owner fell in love with it instantly.
