I was 13 years old when my female cycle started, how excited I was and maybe scared a bit, not sure of how my body would react to finally entering womanhood, thankfully it was an holiday season, but my mum was not around, as she had gone to the market early that morning so as to buy her goods at cheaper rates, so I rushed to break the news to the next female adult in the house, my aunty, she is my mum younger sister, she congratulated me with a smile on her face, going on to ask me certain questions to be sure of the knowledge I had about this stage of womanhood, I guess she was impressed with the answers I gave her, so she didn't say much and moved on to the next step of teaching me how to take care of myself during this moment subsequently.

My excitement turned to worry when my cramp symptoms begin to get worst, and I became unsure about if I want to continue facing this sort of pain every month, I was stuck at one corner of my bed, looking dreadful and wished It could be over soon, but I still had 3-5 days give or take to go through this new cramping experience my aunt said while giving me some drugs to take, which according to her helps relieve her cramps, but it seemed it to only made mine worst.

Few hours later mum arrived from the market, and was greeted with the news of her first daughter attaining womanhood but in a not so exciting way, she came to my room, calmed me down that it will be over soon and ordered that aunt to wash and juice out the oranges she got from the market, it was no surprise, as she getting fruits was a norm in our house, especially after every market visit, she would always force us, me and my siblings to take fruits and vegetables even though we don't like taking them, especially leafy green vegetables, but mum never stoped giving us.
My aunt brought me the cup of orange juice, and with mum's stern supervision, she made sure I emptied the cup, and just like as if she had just performed magic, the cramps stopped and in about a minute, I felt fine, and even more lively to go about my day's activities, since then till this very moment, I made sure to always include fruits and vegetables in my diet and I could go on to list several health benefits of taking them, it's so sad that in this part of the world, especially in the city because of the high cost of buying fruits and vegetables, we skip them, and Instead some keep stuffing ourselves with junk meals, which is bad for our health.
