Hello all Hive friend
Childhood is a phase filled with precious memories that bring a smile to our faces whenever we reminisce. These memorable moments hold a special place in our hearts, providing us with endless joy. In my perspective, childhood is the prime time for creating and preserving such delightful memories. It is not solely the act of spending time with someone that makes a moment extraordinary; it is the genuine enjoyment and impact that leave an indelible mark in our minds forever.
I am from the northern region of our country, which experiences extreme weather conditions during both summer and winter. During the hottest part of summer, temperatures can soar up to 48 degrees Celsius (118 degrees Fahrenheit). On average, temperatures range between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius (94-112 degrees Fahrenheit). This severe heat makes daily life challenging for the people living here. The peak summer season usually falls from June to July, during which schools are closed to protect the children from the harsh weather. This means we are lucky enough to have a 45-day summer vacation. We eagerly anticipate this break as it gives us plenty of time to have fun, meet our relatives, and enjoy the holidays. However, the holidays also come with a lot of school work, so our first priority is always to complete these tasks as quickly as possible. By finishing our holiday assignments early, we can fully enjoy the remaining days of our vacation.
Twenty-five years ago, public transport, mainly buses, dominated as the primary mode of transportation, with infrequent schedules and personal cars being a rarity. Upon completing our holiday tasks, our top priority was persuading our parents to visit the maternal home, referred to as 'Nanka' in our local language. This is where our mother grew up and lived before marriage. In our culture, kids hold a special place at Nanka, receiving special treatment and the freedom to explore, akin to being at their grandparents' home. During the summer, when all my cousins gathered there, it felt like a festive family reunion. Our grandmother would prepare delightful dishes, and the memory of the popcorn-making task remains etched in my mind.
We spent all our vacations there and had a blast. At that age, it was normal for us to switch between playful fights and shared moments. My uncle owned a small piece of agricultural land along with some cattle. Going to the field felt like an outing for us – we would run around, trying to catch each other. We participated in washing the cattle and feeding them. Nearby, there was a large open land where we played in the evenings. Adjacent to this area was a sizable water body with ducks. We brought some food from home and found it amusing to watch the ducks walk in a line, with the baby ducks following their mother.
I always reminisce about those days and summer holidays. Even after 25 years, those precious memories remain vivid in my mind. In today's fast-paced world, I doubt anyone has the time for such experiences. Kids today are engrossed in their studies, burdened even from primary school, and constantly occupied with the digital world. Unlike our childhood, there were no smartphones, and TV programs were also limited. The summer holidays were the major attraction in our life that time. We start counting the days in May itself. Those get together were the one way to share our joy and crate a bond among us.
With those words I am ending my todays post.
