Testing Altera from Magi Network: Adding money and liquidity

Well finally I decided to test Hive account@magi.network. I was very excited since last year about this new opportunity in our blockchain. However, I still haven't tested it since I was a bit busy at work, but finally, I can start testing while writing this post. So first we need to add money. One thing that looks cool is that you can add money with a direct link to Coinbase. That is what our North Americans were looking for, Hive. One of the biggest complaints was that we couldn't buy Hive in any exchange approved in the US or Canada. Hive isn't listed yet in Coinbase, but we can use the exchange and do a direct "buying". Actually, what I understood is that you are buying BTC through Coinbase and sending it to Altera. Maybe another time I can test this path.

In addition to Hive, all three others are based in Bitcoin (including the explained Coinbase path). So I am trying to deposit using Lightning transfer, which is the fastest way to get money there, just mentioning the BTC alternatives, of course, since Hive transferring is also instant. There are a few things that I didn't understand in the process. Why do we need to convert to HBD or HIVE? We have a BTC wallet in Altera, but we can't bring SATS from the lightning without converting? Another thing that it looks like a bug is that if we select HBD, we need to choose the best conversion unit of a value to generate the lightning invoice; it gives the options of BTC, SATS and HBD. The HBD option doesn't work; we click it, and nothing happens. In my case, I chose Sats, which was easier to manage the 1300 Sats that I brought (89 sats paid in fees).

Ok, I couldn't get BTC directly from the lightning network, which is not the best thing. So now I will swap HBD for BTC. So you need to go the left menu and choose the Cross-chain Swap. Be carefull to not use the main Magi-cross chain swap from the dashboard since the swap HBD to BTC will need a BTC wallet address and incur some BTC fees. To be frank, I don't know why keep this in the main dashboard that can be confusing, or implement the regular swap also in the main dashboard, or just leave everything on this left menu side ( you can also swap HBD for BTC and send to a BTC wallet there). After a couple of minutes and finally the new balance of HBD and BTC appeared in my account

Now let's add some liquidity. I went to the pool menu and chose the HBD: BTC pool. By the way, there you can find another button to go to the swap (it looks like the same place that the left menu cross-chain swap leads to). Here is very straightforward. You just need to wait a bit to confirm the transaction to add to liquidity and you added it there. Now I have around 0.97$ in this Liquidity Pool. Should I add more? I will check first how it behaves, but it looks interesting.

Final impressions

Altera still is very promising, and it is starting to deliver interesting DeFi alternatives slowly. Now you can create tokens and NFTs, which I will follow closely. I always wondered about paired LPs with HBD. Now, with the debt on the rise, I started questioning if it was good to invest in a coin with stability in danger. But hopefully HBD will survive. Now, let's go with the things that need to be fixed ASAP: First, the HBD button in the value of the HBD alternative inside the Lightning Network deposit. And also, what bothered me is the three ways to get into swap options, and one of them is only to focus on outside alternatives. In my opinion, the project should choose only one way. Another opinion in my point of view is also concerning the liquid stacking of HBD (sHBD). For now, there isn't any advantage since you still take 3 days to convert to the regular HBD. It would be awesome if we had LPs with the sHBD so we can really use this liquid stacking alternative in a better way.

Bem, finalmente decidi testar a Hive account@magi.network. Estava muito animado desde o ano passado com essa nova oportunidade em nossa blockchain. Além do Hive, os outros três são baseados em Bitcoin (incluindo o caminho explicado do Coinbase). Então, estou tentando depositar usando a Lightning Transfer, que é a maneira mais rápida de enviar dinheiro para lá, apenas mencionando as alternativas em BTC, é claro, já que a transferência do Hive também é instantânea. Ok, não consegui receber BTC diretamente da Lightning Network, o que não é o ideal. Então agora vou trocar HBD por BTC. Então, você precisa ir ao menu à esquerda e escolher a opção "Cross-chain Swap" (Troca entre cadeias). Tenha cuidado para não usar a opção principal de troca entre cadeias do Magi no painel de controle, pois a troca de HBD para BTC exigirá um endereço de carteira BTC e incorrerá em taxas de BTC. Sinceramente, não sei por que manter isso no painel de controle principal, o que pode ser confuso, ou se a troca normal também deveria ser implementada no painel de controle, ou se tudo deveria estar neste menu à esquerda (onde você também pode trocar HBD por BTC e enviar para uma carteira BTC). Após alguns minutos, finalmente o novo saldo de HBD e BTC apareceu na minha conta.

Agora vamos adicionar liquidez. Fui ao menu de pools e escolhi o pool HBD:BTC. Aliás, lá você encontra outro botão para acessar a troca (parece o mesmo lugar para onde leva a troca entre blockchains no menu à esquerda). É bem simples. Basta esperar um pouco para a transação ser confirmada antes de adicionar liquidez, e pronto. Agora tenho cerca de US$ 0,97 neste pool de liquidez. Devo adicionar mais? Vou verificar primeiro como se comporta, mas parece interessante.

Impressões finais

A Altera ainda é muito promissora e está começando a oferecer alternativas DeFi interessantes. Agora você pode criar tokens e NFTs, que acompanharei de perto. Sempre tive curiosidade sobre os provedores de liquidez (LPs) pareados com HBD. Agora, com o aumento da dívida, comecei a questionar se seria uma boa ideia investir em uma moeda com estabilidade ameaçada. Mas espero que o HBD sobreviva. Agora, vamos aos pontos que precisam ser corrigidos o mais rápido possível: Primeiro, o botão HBD no valor da alternativa HBD dentro do depósito da Lightning Network. Além disso, o que me incomodou foram as três maneiras de acessar as opções de swap, sendo uma delas focada apenas em alternativas externas. Na minha opinião, o projeto deveria escolher apenas uma. Outra opinião que tenho diz respeito ao sHBD (liquid stacking). Por enquanto, não há nenhuma vantagem, já que ainda leva 3 dias para converter para HBD normal. Seria ótimo se tivéssemos LPs com sHBD para que pudéssemos usar essa alternativa de sHBD de uma maneira melhor.
