Hello Hive Learners family,
The unique cadence of life as an only child often feels like dancing to a song only you can hear. It's a rhythm marked by an intriguing blend of solitude and self-discovery, sparking questions that linger like melodies in the stillness of solo life. What if there were more voices in my familial chorus? More laughter, more squabbles, more shared secrets under the glow of a shared nightlight?
My childhood was a solo expedition, a journey navigated in the company of imaginary friends and digital confidants. The hum of my Super NES, the flicker of my PlayStation, and the entrancing narratives of PlayStation 2 became my companions. It was like creating my own symphony from the orchestra of my imagination.
Growing up alone was akin to being a single boat in a vast ocean. I was the captain, the crew, and the sole passenger. My horizon was often quiet, punctuated only by the sound of my own laughter. A feeling of solitude, yes, but not always a stage for sadness.
Within the ancient, comforting pages of the Bible, Psalms 68:6 suggests, "God setteth the solitary in families." And indeed, I found my family, not bound by blood but connected by faith, in the arms of my church. It was a unique siblinghood, united by a common belief rather than shared DNA, beautifully illustrating that family often transcends bloodlines.
Being an only child isn't synonymous with leading a lonely life. Yes, there are moments when solitude might echo a tad too loudly. But it's also in these silent spaces that we learn to listen to our own hearts, to engage with our imaginations, and to find peace in our own company.
To my fellow singletons, if you ever feel a twinge of loneliness, remember this: you are the master of your own journey. Seek comfort in hobbies that inspire you, find companionship in the embrace of nature, and forge friendships that can feel as close as siblings. There's a certain joy in being able to choose your family.
If you, like me, have ever wondered about the presence of more siblings, remember that life has a peculiar knack for delivering what we need, even if it's not what we initially envisaged. I found a sprawling family within my church community. Keep an open heart and an open mind; you may discover your "siblings" in the most unexpected corners of life.
Even as only children, we are never truly alone. We create our own symphony, a beautiful solo that echoes with the rhythms of our unique experiences.
