Tradition is something that is often passed down from one generation to another and there are quite a lot of them that I find not so useful and most of us would be better off without them. These traditions are things that one man found helpful to himself and he had to pass it down to his next of kin and just like that it went even beyond his or her family. Sometimes I do feel that most of these traditions are practices that the real inventor wouldn't even want us to be a part of anymore.
Especially in this festive season, so many people have lost their sense of humor, they no longer care what they do all in the name of celebrating and the funny yet annoying part of it is the fact that even parents at this time let their children or ward do what they like without caring so much. All over the world, in action, People define holiday as freedom to do what they've always wanted to do and it's even more rampant during the December holiday.
I don't know how it happens but no matter how a parents seem strict towards their children on a normal day, once it's December holiday they seem loose with their children and they let them do whatever they want, eat whatever they want, go wherever they wish to go and return home when they please. I'm not sure every parents is like this but I've come to realize that this is one holiday tradition that so many homes are practicing today and from what I've seen, it has caused more havoc in the society than good.
This time of the year is the time when so many atrocities takes place but still it's the time when most parents leave their children or wards to do things as they wish. Speaking from experience, I remember when I was living with my aunt, she always let us go out on Christmas day without asking so many questions of where we are going to or who we are going to meet with. Even when she ask, we can easily get a pass by telling a lie.
But the good thing is some of us have good home training to an extent so we can easily help ourselves to get back to sanity even with the different opportunities to do what we so wish. But back then, I remember so many of my classmates in school who will tell us stories of what they end up doing with the opportunity they got. It is something that I can't even talk about but I know that so many children have ended up in some messy situations thanks to the holiday tradition of being free.
I doubt if this is common in other parts of the world but here in Nigeria it is something I've seen and experienced over the years and I really hope it can be stopped but I doubt if that would even be possible because most children now see it as something that is normal. Yes, it's good to be liberal but being too liberal at some certain times than the other gives room to so many things that shouldn't be.
