That stage after school you are in a fix and all that is on your mind is on how to get something doing, be productive and have a livelihood for a reasonable income. That is the point you will start hearing questions such as, when will you marry? It is your turn next and all the blab bla bla. They assume once you are done with school, marriage is next (I cannot even say if it is worse for either gender)!!! This for some of us have stopped us from picking some calls, coming to church, attending occasions such as weddings (as you will see those questions in their eyes without them necessarily asking!), and even worse, meeting them in religious gatherings like church and mosque, they will almost kneel you down in prayer as though you needed deliverance.
And there is that stage when you are newly wedded and the question that follows especially after a year or two of no offspring(s) is, have you seen the Gynaecologist? Or the cleric? For goodness sake, what if the newly-weds have a different goal? Or the couple chose to willingly defer childbirth? 🙉
We are in a society and time that people around us especially the older folks draw timelines for our pace in life😓. These frequent and unnecessary questions have pushed many people to wrong choice of steps. I have a female currently that has been pushed to the wall even by the mother!!! You heard me right…. By her own mother!!! All because she’s over 30 years of age and unmarried meanwhile, the younger sibling is married with kids. At some point, I had to make this friend realize that, making a wrong choice due to pressure could cost her a life-long happiness.
These What Next questions should not influence or dictate our pace. They could be worth considering but definitely not reasons we hasten some well-planned goals. These days, I say Amen to prayers of twins before my next birthday when I am not even married 🤣(I am the one that knows best what I have discussed with God) and sometimes, make a joke out of all their seriousness. Let us live a little, let us walk when we are supposed to, let us run when we should, and let us fly when we should🤗!!!
