Freedom of Speech or Right To Privacy? Which of these do y'all think is the most important? Which of the two would you choose to enjoy at the cost of the other? Have you ever imagined living without any of these?
Think about that for a minute...
I believe we have a very tough and interesting topic to explore this time around. It just feels like you have to think deeply and check the pros and cons of sacrificing each of the mentioned Rights for the other. If you know what you prioritise between the two, you will have no problem figuring out the one you can afford to let go of.
For me, this will be a rough ride because I hold both of these rights in high regard. Choosing one over another isn't going to be an easy thing to do. Perhaps, we should first dig into each of these Rights before making an an attempt to choose one over another;
Freedom Of Speech
I believe that great strength comes from saying the truth as it is and expressing our genuine opinion about things regardless of who is listening, especially when you risk being offensive. The fact that we have the right to speak on several topics may look quite trivial until you realize that folks are getting censored, cancelled and de-platformed because they said the truth as it is.
In case you don't know, freedom of speech is no longer a trivial right to have or enjoy. Take the recurring incident that's going on in Canada. Didn't you hear about Jordan Peterson and his fight with the Canadian College of Psychologists? It's funny how the Ontario Court ruled against him and he's in line to lose the license which certifies him to practice in Canada as a Clinical Psychologist just because he made tweets and said stuff in podcasts.
That may be hard to understand and I wouldn't want to dig into the Politics. However, imagine you no longer have the right to call a spade a spade. Imagine losing your means of livelihood just because you shared your thoughts about certain topics. Trust me, that's not something you would like to experience.
Right To Privacy
I'm glad I talked about freedom of speech before diving into this because I wouldn't want anyone to confuse freedom with oppression. To a great degree, we all have the right to do what we want but don't forget that there are naive clout chasers out there who will do anything for 5-minute fame including publicizing someone's private affairs.
I know someone who doesn't like to bring her life to the internet. You won't find any of her pictures on the internet and she's very careful about how much of her life she makes known to the internet world. There are many people like that and I know best to respect that about such people.
On a wider scale, the right to privacy is meant to protect someone from unreasonable intrusion into his/her privacy. This should be the case but I know from experience that the right to privacy is getting trampled on by our Police, for example.
Choosing between the two;
This was supposed to be a tough choice to make, but after thinking deeply about the two, I believe I would easily let go of my right to privacy. I know enough about too much exposure and I know about the stuff that can go wrong if someone's data (info) falls into the hands of people who are heading down an incorrigible path.
However, I don't think I can face myself in the mirror if I ever get to lose my freedom of Speech. Do y'all even know how I feel whenever I have something to say? Haha. I don't sugarcoat it and I DON'T LIE. I just say things as I see it and all hell can be let loose. Of course, I'm always ready to take responsibility for everything I said.
For someone like myself, having to live without my Right To Freedom Of Speech would be an unbearable stuff.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma.
