How do you treat old people?, this is a question we all have to answer. I see how some persons treat an old person and it moves me to tears. I believe that old age is a blessing. I remember when my grandparents were still alive, I enjoyed every moment I spent with them.
Why do I love old people?, My love for them comes from the experience I had with my grandparents when they were still alive. I wish they were still alive 😔.
I enjoyed every moment I spent with them. My grandfather thought me how to ride a bicycle and I loved every moment of it. My grandmother would cook and made sure I ate to my satisfaction.
My grandparents were so caring, I remember any time we visited them, they made sure that we are well taken care of. I remember this particular incident. I was playing outside barefooted and I kicked a stone. It was painful but I wasn't injured. When my grandparents knew about it, they became so worried and kept asking of there is any way the could help, what I wanted to eat. All they wanted was for me not to feel the pain. My grandmother bought me a chilled bottle of Yoghurt. I loved the pampering and enjoyed very minute of it .
Grandparents are patient in nature. When my cousins and I would be playing and screaming, our parents would shout on us to stop but our grandparents would always say "leave my grandchildren alone". Before the discipline for an offense that means it must have been a serious one.
Discipline is one of the things I loved about them. My grandparents always told me that a "disciplined man rules over is age mates". When you commit an offense you would be punished but after they might have corrected you, my grandparents will talk to you and make sure you understand why you had to be punished. They made sure that we were properly dressed for any occasion and went early before it even started. They thought me that punctuality is the bedrock of success.
Giving is another reason I love older people. I was always getting money for lunch, toys and chocolates from my grandparents. When my parents visited them, they would give them some cash, my grandparents would still give me some part of the money. My parents would protest saying "this money isn't enough for you", my grandparents would always respond by saying "it's my money,so I can give it to my grandkid".
I learnt a lot of life lessons from my grandparents. How to love people and be very respectful.
My grandparents would tell us stories about so many things. This really helped me. I remember a teacher asking a question about the tortoise and black smith. I smiled and answered his question. My teacher was shocked because he believed no student knew the story.
I see the way some people treat old people with disdain and it breaks my heart. I once asked a friend the last time he visited his grandparents and he looked at me and laughed. I told him he did not know how lucky he was to still have them around.
I see old people as a blessing.
I have an old man living on my street. He is my friend and I go to see him on weekends. We discuss about so many things. He will tell me stories about different historical events in Nigeria. I am also shocked at his wealth of knowledge.
Let's treat old people with love and care. One day we will all get to this stage in life .
