This is my entry to the third episode of the weekly featured contest in Hive learners community.
This article is centered on FAKE NEWS.
Encountering fake news and information is what everyone of us can't totally dodge because of the era of digital world we are.
The ever loving digital world has not been without its disadvantages and one of them has been the fast spread of false informations.
I've always wondered on the reasons why such news are spread. I know that one of the major reason is to attract people to a particular blog thereby increasing traffic, hence generating big earnings, but this is not only the case because I've read where people are being wished death.
Some of the news I fell for are as follows:
🔹The death and clone of President of my country;
Some years back, the news of death of Mr President broke out with accurate pictorial backups. The news said that he died some years ago, he got buried and they rented a look-alike from Saudi Arabia to use him as Mr president.
Although I'm not the political freak but this news really got me checking newsline every now and then. I was so much interested and so pained on how this particular people were manipulating the country with their smartness.
All the news were so real, these bloggers even went far to trace the family background of the man they're using as clone, the pictures of the grave Mr President was buried and the close-door attendance of the burial event. Everything was just perfect.
The news really noised abroad, it became a big concern to every citizen because it was seen as some group of people were manipulating the country.
But how did it ended?
A time came when everyone got tired of the whole scenario. The fake news died and no one showed concerned again.
Writing this today, I remember seeing Mr President today making speech on the Independence celebration and I laughed "so this is the man that news told us that he's dead?" Lol🤣
🔹The death of Nollywood actor;
This year alone, the news about the death of a veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacob has been released up to three times or more, and the family always come out to debunk the news. The first time hearing the news I was so heartbroken because I love his actions in movies but thank God the family quickly debunked the news via the wife's Twitter handle.
Nigerians on Twitter didn't failed to drag bloggers for spreading such news.
Now, is it that they want him death, that's why they keep spreading such news? This isn't just for blogging and traffic sake.
🔹Covid-19 news;
I don't know about other countries but during 2020, Nigerians suffered from the shots of fake news and msinformations. Let me not say much on this before the government will get me arrested lol🤣.
I know covid19 is real but thank God we've all known some truths behind our Nigeria method and we've left it for them.
Summary
Some of these news, you don't need to search more to dig out the truth, where would you search when even the authentic channels are saying the same thing?
Just sip your drink, relax and the real news will pop up in a matter of days.
Just like the covid19 news, the real thing got uncovered and shame was released upon them🙄.
Let me drop my keyboard here.
