Greetings everyone 🙌
This prompt really took me back to the lanes of memories. For a very long time, I have not been that social in terms of sports or any physical contest or game. It's been me and my virtual world. The last time I was involved in any competitive game was far back in 2020, when I did my NSc.
It was fun and full of surprises for me because the game I found myself in is not something I'm capable of. Wondering what it was? It's football.
Oh yeah, I love football a lot. I can talk about it for hours, but when it comes to jogging, I get lazy easily.
I was in platoon two, the platoon with the largest number of ladies.
As usual, there's always inter-platoon sporting activity, and football is always at the top.
As I mentioned earlier, my platoon was filled with females, so we had issues when picking football players. 20% of the guys in the group were not football freaks, so I had to step in.
Although I don't know how to play very well, I was far better than the lazy 20%. I know the basics of football, and I can also run towards an opponent, even if get
intimidated with dribbles at the end.
Training section.
I didn't want to be tagged with high expectations, so I quietly chose to play defense instead of being a sticker. I didn't want to be looked at the way they watch Ronaldo and expect him tk score from every angle, and when he doesn't deliver, he becomes the subject for the whole month.
I did well in the defensive position in the training; I got some accolades because they never expected my slim body to be so defensive...Ladies liked me too, but I was a dull guy.
During the Competition
Fast forward to our first match against Platoon 7.
We got kitted up in a blue Ecobank's sponsored jersey. The kit fitted me so well, and I was looking like the Argentine winger, Di Maria.
We mounted in our positions, and when the match began, it was the full-blown opposite of my experience during the training. Our opponents attackers were fiery with their sharp-toothed boots, matching my low-budget boots, and my legs suffered while trying to tackle them and blocking them from scoring.
Before I knew it, I was beaten down at my wing, and our keeper was just like... (I wanted to call Onana).
Goals 1, 2, and 3 saw our net in the first half.
OMG! At this point, I started regretting why I didn't choose to play as a sticker; the defense position was tougher than the others.
We resumed the second half, and miraculously, our coach got me substituted with another person I hadn't seen before. Maybe our coach went to buy players from other platoons. Lol.
I didn't care at all; I was tired already and frustrated by the intimidating stickers of our opponents.
I happily came out of the pitch, and yeah, I joyfully switched to the people supplying water to the players.
How did the tournament end
We were knocked out after three matches, and we were given the title of worst losers
