Hello everyone, how are you doing today? Hope you are having a great time. This will be Week 201, Edition 02 of our Weekly Featured Content.
So, last Saturday we had our hangout as usual, and it was just so much fun that we did not want it to end. We are currently on the second topic for this week, which is “PHONE BAN”.
But before we proceed with the details of the topic, let us take a look at the winners of the last topic, which was “THE TEACHER’S ROLE”.
This topic was geared toward each member of the community, telling us about their thoughts on teachers and where exactly their jurisdiction started and ended. Was it just limited to the classroom? Or were they allowed to exercise their authority when they found their students outside the school premises and outside school hours?
We got to see that this was indeed a tricky situation. For many, they believe that teachers only belong in schools and anything outside that would be overstepping their boundaries, while others feel that the four walls of the classroom shouldn’t limit the role of a teacher, because they can find their pupils in compromising situations that would require them to step in. In the end, there are legitimate reasons why one would support this move, and why one wouldn’t. It was an enlightening topic, indeed.
For this topic, we went through every entry post, and that is every post with the #hl-exclusive & #hl-w201e1; tag. And with the number of wonderful posts out there, it was quite difficult to make a selection. But eventually, we did just that. And so, the posts that will be featured not just for their exceptional content, but also for their level of engagement with other authors, will be listed below.
Featured Contents
DISCIPLINE, RESPECT, AND THE MODERN TEACHER by
This author told us that the role of a teacher goes beyond just impacting academic knowledge, it also involves instilling morals and discipline to help the young ones shape their future. And in the end, it all depends on how the teacher carries himself; it will also determine how students will react to him when he finds them outside the school premises.
*For this author, she told us that in the world today, teachers are at a major disadvantage because most students can’t be disciplined due to their upbringing, and they have parents who support whatever they do, regardless of how harmful it is. And then, teachers of this age are increasingly less qualified for the profession, which poses a very big problem indeed.”
TEACHING BEYOND BLACKBOARD: TEACHERS ARE GREAT MENTORS by
For this author, she told us that she doesn’t believe that a teacher’s role should end in the classroom. As a matter of fact, pupils get excited when they see their teachers outside their schools. And when the teachers does instill some discipline outside the school premises, it should be done in a calm and gentle way.

“Have you considered banning phones in your homes? During a specific time of the day, like during dinner or when the family gathers to see a movie. Would it be okay to ban the use of phones during that period so that members of the family can connect without the distractions that come with phones? Will this be an infringement of rights?”
