☆ THE FIGHT THAT THE ANGELS ENDORSED
Have you ever been involved in a very hot argument on which item or personality is better?
Like...
- iPhone vs Android?
- Messi vs Ronaldo?
- Davido vs Wizkid?
- Nigerian Jollof vs Ghanaian Jollof? (obviously Nigerian Jollof)
- Chicken vs Turkey? (turkey always)
- Zeeworld vs African Magic? (None please)
- B… vs A..? (think whatever you want)
- Music Community vs Hive Open Mic? (Ksam is quiet)
- theyca…. vs appr…? (sorry, skip this part… I didn’t say anything)
vs
? (what is the basis for this argument?)
- 1000 HP vs 1000 Shawarma? (
, I hope you won’t choose shawarma?)
- Talent vs hard work?
In one way or the other, you must have argued on one or more of these issues.
Well, please don’t ask me how I know that the angels endorsed this fight.
☆ TALENT VS HARD WORK?
To say the least, Eartherners are always confused whenever this question is posed at them.
Many would tilt towards the direction of Talent and exclude Hardwork, while others will create a hashtag for #onlyhardwork reigns.
Such actions get me pissed off and confused.
On the one hand, they say that when you have the talent or the grace, you don’t need to stress yourself for things. For instance, cute guys like don’t need to stress themselves, unlike one other guy called
. While the former has the talent and the grace of cuteness inborn, the latter has seen "shege" so he neither has the talent nor is he working hard for it.
On the other hand, others would say that Hard work is the greatest. They say that with hardwork you can become Elon Musk in two weeks. I don't know how true this it, but that's what they keep saying.
☆ EITHER TALENT OR HARDWORK
When they hold on to the extreme case of this argument, then you'd realize that it's no longer a joke.
Imagine someone saying that since I have the Talent of singing, then I don't need to practice before singing at a concert. Or since I have the Talent of throwing paper into the wastebin from afar, then I am a professional basketballer. Honestly, such actions and thoughts wear the perfume of Pride.
Likewise, when someone says that since I do not have the talent of a footballer, then there is no need to work hard for it, even though I want to become a footballer. Or that there is no need to read for this exam since I'd always fail. Such statements are motivated by despair and foreclose the possibility for growth.
☆ TALENT AND HARD WORK
In a bid to flex our muscles, show superiority and show which is better over the other, we sometimes miss the point!
I am strongly of the opinion that we shouldn't bother ourselves with questions pertaining to which is superior to the other. Instead, we should focus our minds on how to get the best out of these amazing features.
Thus, whether we see talent as a natural skill in us and hardwork as consistent effort, we need to see both as complimentary instead of opposing features.
On the one hand, one with talent should make consistent effort (Hard Work) to be better and to progress. On the other hand, one without talent should put in consistent effort to develop that skill. With consistency, such skills or talent will become part of him or her.
So yes, Talent and Hard work goes in tandem, they go in pari pa sum, just like Shawarma and Cold Stone (Ice cream).
