You have to get along with people, but you also have to recognize that the strength of a team is different people with different perspectives and different personalities. - Steve Case
We are all wired differently and we have different strengths and weaknesses but that's what makes the world a very fun place, our differences are what bring about different approaches and ways of doing things and it's the major reason why we have different innovations and inventions today.
Just think about what the world will look like if we are all wired the same way; if we all think alike, have the same hobbies, have the same set of skills, find fun in the same things, share similar interests...and now I am just describing a robot, coz they are mostly built the same way and they carry out similar functions. Imagine that happening and everyone in the world suddenly becomes a doctor, doesn't make much sense, right?
Being wired differently is the reason why all of us have a thing or two which we don't do but everyone around us does. It can be because we don't find it fun or we don't see a reason for it or it goes against our ideals/beliefs/personality, there can be different reasons for it. For me, one of the things I don't do even if it's normal is:
Engage in sports
I can't count the number of times I have heard people say; "you're a guy and you don't watch soccer matches?" Or "why don't you play football like every other guy?". I don't really know why but I have never really fancied any sports right from childhood. I played football sometimes as a kid but it was just to pass time, if another option came up when I am playing football, I stop playing.
I have seen other males around me get very excited about premier league matches or champions league, they all look forward to the weekend where they can watch their favorite teams play but as for me? Nope, I don't get any excitement from football. My friends sometimes tease me by saying I'm a girl whenever I refuse to go play football with them but I always reply with "you guys play football, but I play computers and none of you does it better than me" 🤣
And there lies my strength: computers and the internet. I have always loved computers since I was a child and whenever an opportunity comes up to play with one even if I am having a fun time with my friends, I always ditch them and go spend time with the computer. While my friends are having fun on the field playing football or in a sports viewing center watching their favorite team play, I am indoors behind a computer or phone, crawling around the internet.
Because of that, I have come across a lot of opportunities that earned me some money, as well as tremendously increased my knowledge of a lot of different fields. My friends usually meet me and they go like "hey Kushy, you have any new updates?", Of course I do, that was how I introduced them to readcash, hive, and a couple of other platforms.
I might not be skilled in playing football or even like watching any sports in general, but at least I am very skilled with a computer. The only time I have ever enjoyed watching football is during the last world cup, I was working at a restaurant in the university and they usually show every match for customers to watch, it was very fun because of the number of people that are always present to watch each match
Aside from that, I have never really fancied football or other sports. I don't even like sports games (FIFA, PES, dream league, basketball, and all others) despite being a gamer, I prefer other genres of games like shooters (call of duty, PUBG) and adventures or action (god of war, mortal Kombat).
Wrapping up
Our differences are what makes us unique, it's why we have strength in one field and weak in another but that's what makes us good at the things we do. You don't have to do something you don't like simply because a majority of people are doing it and you want to feel among, you can just be yourself and focus on the things you love.
One of the ways of living a happy life is to not pay attention to what people say about you, you don't have to conform to anyone's standards or expectations, just do the things you are comfortable with and you will appreciate yourself later on for not giving in to societal pressures or copying another person's personality.
