Good day everyone, welcome to my entry for the hive learners weekly featured contents. Today's topic is titled a true story and it seems simple enough at first but then I started thinking about if I have any interesting story that will be worth telling coz I actually have a boring life, then I remember something that happened in my first year in the university.
It's my first year at the university and like most universities in my country, my university did a matriculation ceremony to welcome the newly admitted students. It was a happy day for us (although I didn't really see the need for celebrating 😆) and my mom and siblings came with lots of food and drinks to celebrate with me but I wasn't really focused on all that, I was looking forward to the after party organized by different faculties.
My faculty is agriculture but at that point, I didn't really know anybody there but I had friends in other departments, especially physical science. My faculty was having an after-party for us the new students but I decided to go with my friends in physical science who had a party in a very prestigious night club close to the school. I haven't gone to a party in a very long time and I quickly jumped at the opportunity to party with my friends in the VIP section of the club.
There was loud music, lots of dancing and drinks, I was totally enjoying myself and I thought the party will be on till daybreak but around 2 am, my friends said it was time to leave because the club was about to shut down. Like I said earlier, the club was close to the university (directly opposite the university gate), so we simply have to cross the road and enter the campus but we didn't anticipate one problem; the gate was locked!
We knocked and some security men came out from their building. They told us that the gate was locked and we will have to wait till 5 am before it will be opened. We pleaded with them to open it for us because we didn't have anywhere to go and we can't stay outside the gate till it was 5 am but they refused. The only option we had was to trek a very long distance around the school and go to our off-campus apartment but that wasn't a good idea.
We couldn't do that because the community we live in was very dangerous and it's not advisable to be walking about at that ungodly hour. The plan was that we are going to spend the night with one of our friends who have a room in the staff quarters then once it was morning, we can all go to our off-campus hostels. But the security men refused to open the gate and we realized we were stuck.
We didn't know what to do until one of us suggested scaling the school fence. He said we can go to the portion where the ground level is high enough and then wait for a good time when security patrol has passed the area before jumping over the fence. It was a very risky plan and if we are caught, we are going to get expelled from the university but after thinking about it for a while, we decided to go with that idea coz we can't think of any other plan.
So we pretended as if we have finally given up and left the university's gate. After walking a certain distance, we circled back towards the school fence and looked for a very good spot to scale the fence. We noticed one security man with a torchlight patrolling the area and after watching him for a while, he moved to another area, that was when we made our move.
The four of us quickly climbed the fence and jumped to the other side. As soon as our legs touched the ground inside the university, we took off and started running like crazy. My heart was beating faster than a beatbox and I was trembling as I ran because I was expecting to hear something like "hey you, stop there". But luckily, we never encountered anybody and we finally stopped running after getting to a reasonable distance.
We finally arrived at our friend's apartment and we started talking about what happened that night. We laughed as we recounted how each of us jumped over the fence and ran for our lives 😆 and then we slept off. We all went back to our various apartments in the morning and never told anybody about what happened that night. I just hope any of my lecturers or university staff is not on this platform but then again, which university am I talking about? I didn't mention it, for security reasons 😉
