We have all been to school or go to school be it public or private school but some of us haven’t attended both, some people attended private school throughout while some attended public school throughout and some attended both as for me, I attended both but mostly schooled in a public school
I spent my crèche, kindergarten, and primary school in a private school but I didn’t finish my primary school in a private one, I started my primary 5 (which was the last class for primary in a private school) in a public school (which included primary 6), I did the rest of my schooling in a public school. My experience in private school was not bad and my public school experience was okay.
I love public school and private school, I feel like they both have their advantages and disadvantages but personally, I will prefer public school to a mere private school, when I say mere I mean private schools that are not nicely established. They are some private schools that just annoy me, they are poorly established while some private schools are wishful.
In the same way, they are some public schools that are poorly established while some aren’t. Personally, I went to a nice public school (Lagos public school to be precise, some state schools aren’t that structured), I’ll say. My junior secondary school was not that nice because the population in the class was much but when I got to senior secondary, we were quite much but it was convenient especially for science class
Lagos state public schools are most likely to be equipped than mere private schools, they also have qualified teachers. There are laboratories like; the physics lab, biology lab, chemistry lab, English and theatre room, computer room, library, mathematics room, counseling room… only a standard private school would have such.
My school is totally free nothing to pay for, unlike some other public schools which pay little money. It is open to a lot of opportunities, there are a lot of programs you can participate in that can get you a scholarship, a lot of scholarships, a lot of competitions, and extracurricular activities which a mere private school would rarely have opportunities to.
They are some things I don’t like about public schools. They are too overpopulated especially for the junior school, even though the classrooms are big, the classes are usually crowded with students which make the Students lose attention to whatever they are teaching them.
This over-population affects the facilities of the school, the equipment is still not enough for the students. Especially in junior school, you have to struggle to have and maintain a seat, which can be stolen anytime.
Lack of care.. there is less care in public schools even the teachers don’t care, it is every man for himself, they are a lot of bullies in public schools, there is a lot of maltreatment and insult even from teachers, and the teachers are so nonchalant and only some are committed, they are more corporal punishment in public school. They are also a lot of bad influences.
Public schools should try to consider these disadvantages, the nonchalance to be reduced, the maltreatment and bullies should be lessened, and teachers should show care and do their job. The population to be limited or the classes should be increased.
In my private school where I did my primary school, they were less populated, like 10-15 people, they are no labs or anything for the senior school, you will rarely see an equipment.
I remembered when I did JAMB lesson in one of the private schools, which was quite big in the area, what they called the library, was so small, and the books were about 20. Their lab equipment is so few like having just one retort stand, one Bunsen burner… I believed that a standard and expensive school will be the best because they will have more equipment and they are likely to be open to opportunities and programs
I’m a nutshell, private and public schools have their own advantages and disadvantages.
