The black day of 2000 when thousands of people died due to water. Many people in our Bangladesh do not know that a terrible day passed in the southern region in 2000 and a very dangerous event took place for a whole month that within a month many houses and many people went missing and many died.

Probably there were floods all over Bangladesh in 1998 but those floods did not cause any loss to the people of our southern region. In a word, we did not see flood waters in our southern region.
But the floods that occurred in 2000 in our southern region were very bad. You all know that the Satkhira-Jessore region is surrounded by the Farakka Gate of India. People and homes are submerged.
I remember very well when I was in class three. I used to get up in the morning and go to Maktab every day and that day I was supposed to hold Quran Sharif's hand. There are a lot of people there. I told him where so many people are coming from. He said I don't know where the flood is.

When I visited our school grounds, I was amazed to see a gathering of thousands of people, big and small, with big sacks.
When the people were opening the sacks and the chickens were taking out all these dead bodies, I realized what had happened to them and how much danger they were facing.
Slowly moving further forward I saw that the flood waters had become so terrible that anyone would be frightened to see it so I ran away in fear and came home and asked my father if the flood waters have entered. Will we still be here? If it is gone then there is no need to go anywhere else.
As soon as I said this, my comment at night was that my father took us to a big building of our police station to go to a safe place like that and we stayed there for about 13 to 14 days. When it started, we came home and when we came home, we saw that there was nothing but human crops, everything was lost in the flood waters. This was the black day of 2000.
