Well, to be honest, I actually do not have any of the insurance policies, not life insurance, health insurance and such, nothing at all. Or let me say, not yet. And it's not because I frown at it, no, insurance is actually good and it is obviously a means of preparing. Because life can be unpredictable at times.
One of the reasons why I do not think much about it before was because of the mentality had when growing up, one of which is the mentality that insurance is meant for the wealthy, another is that you only pay and see nothing in return, one of those mentality as well is that it's as if you're praying for something bad to happen, preparing for a bad thing to happen to you, funny right, but that was the mentality back then, that it's a money pit that gives nothing back, it only takes.
And then, we see our insurance as families and friends, they are the ones who come through for us during crises, celebrations, challenges and all, they contribute for us, donate, borrow and show up. But as time goes on, I myself begins to see things differently, life can be so funny and unpredictable and humans too aren't the way they are before, it's just best to insure and prepare oneself ahead of whatever..
I've been in a position where I had to spend a whole lot on my health, and that's how life can be, just one situation can humble you, humble your savings and humble your bank account in a minute. That's why you see people doing distress sales at times, selling lands, cars, properties and such all because something they never expected or plan ahead for came unannounced.
Insurance isn't a money growing way, but it acts as a shield that can protect all what you've worked so hard to achieve over the years. So that a single challenge won't come to destroy all that you've built. So, insurance is good, some say that in the long run it can affect ones finances, then what of an unplanned disaster that can come and wreck you overall. Though, I've had stories of people having issues claiming what they've insured and having to stress and all just so to have access to their own insurance, even still I won't deny that insurance is good.
I still have some hidden fears about it, maybe due to what I've seen, heard and read about their terms, conditions, delayed claims and all. And maybe that's why I don't have anything insured yet, maybe it's cause my finance isn't stable or maybe it's just procrastination. But then, coming about this topic now made me think about it again, because at the end of the day, insurance is not scam, you definitely need to protect that which you've worked hard for.
