The topic asked didn't specify if the unforgettable new year celebration should be a happy one although I've celebrated most of the new year in happiness but there's this one that is so unforgettable for me. It wasn't totally bad that day but something happened that we wished it didn't.
It was five years ago (in 2018) when I visited my grandmother with my siblings in the village. We rarely visit her so it was an exciting journey for us. We got to her house a week to new year and it was from one fun time to another because her children (my aunts) succeeded in making grandma not visit the farm until after the new year celebration... That woman can work ehn! π
I still remember how well fed we were with grandma because she never wants to know that we've not eaten or eaten enough even though she doesn't show it with the way she acts, she will be like "Ona too chop" π but in her mind, she's happy that her meals never go to waste. We were many in the house so there was never a dull moment.
Until new year's day when it happened...
We all went for a crossover service on new year's eve, sang our hearts out until we all screamed a "Happy new year" happily and started walking back home displaying candle lights amongst others who were excited too.
There was a big display of knockouts outside the church hall after closing time but it continued while we were on our way home. No, we didn't take part in shooting knockouts as grandmum didn't like it but we enjoyed watching others do it as we walked back home.
A few minutes close to our house, a little boy stepped on a prepared bomb (if you know those loud ones they set and walk a bit far from before it blows off) and he got badly injured. He was a close neighbor's son so it automatically disorganised the day's plan for our celebration. That didn't mean anything for us as we felt so much pity for him, he was rushed to the hospital and taken care of there.
My grandmum and aunts are good at one thing (too much talks about better living) lol. They couldn't stop talking about the incidents and finding blames in the situation, we the grandchildren had to find ourselves food to eat since we didn't have much to contribute to all that happened.
Thanks to that incident, we couldn't go out as planned the previous day by my aunt so we just sat around talking about different stuffs among ourselves and when there was light, we sat to see movies together until it got dark.
It's was an unforgettable new year's day that I had good times with my grandma, aunts, cousins and for the first time in my life, I witnessed a bomb that was supposed to be for fun on celebration days, hurting someone badly.
It actually paid off that we went on the outing the next day which happened to be a weekend so I still had my usual fun new year's day celebration regardless.
