My dream profession was just a dream
In a typical Nigerian home, before you graduate your primary school, you should've at least thought of something you want to be in the future or your parents must have already told you what they want you to be in the future.
This is not a joke and as funny as it sounds, my parents and relatives had already told me to become so many different things and some even said they saw visions about it.
I guess we all had that stupid dream of wanting to be a superhero, so we could save the whole world hahaha, you get older and figure out oh! You need an actual job to survive hahaha
The funny thing about public universities in Nigeria is what you want isn't always what you get. You may apply for Nursing and end up getting fisheries hahaha, that's a true story tho and it's my story. After a year of preparing for an exam, and having high hopes to get into school, only to find out you were given a course different from what you imagined. I guess many people would agree with me, that it's disappointing.
Now here's a trip down the so many things I wanted to be
My dream profession at first was to be a banker, I've always admired how they dressed and how they worked and got to associate with customers every day.
When I was in Junior secondary school I was so into creams, I would recommend a cream or lotion for any skin condition For someone, and believe me it would work wonders, so yeah everyone around me concluded I should be a dermatologist because why else would I just have a gift like that hahaha...
Fast forward to what my dad wanted me to be in the future. He said onumeya you should be a Police Officer and secure a big rank at that. My dad had always been a fan of people in uniforms, and he would make jest of how big I was, saying I'm not big for nothing. Well, my mum would ship for anything I told her I wanted to be in the future, all she wanted was for her kids to be successful.
I know you're wondering how I finally ended up choosing Nursing after so many visions about my future hahaha...
We have to go far back in time in 2015 from how it all started.
Almost all my relatives saw a vision of my future but they were no pastors so I just brushed it off. Not until I and my family went to a church and the pastor saw a vision of me wearing a lab coat and also operating on a patient and saw me coming out of the operation room in style hihihi. Believe me my family and everyone around we're so happy for me and I was also happy that I would be a surgeon. And all I could think of was, finally, a woman ordained by God had seen what God wanted me to be in the future, what could go wrong, I mean that's what God wants for me so I must do it. I was excited yet not so excited because I had to switch from Arts to Science which wasn't a big deal for me. After all, that was just my first term in senior year.
I switched to science and boy I was soaring like an eagle(not really, it was very tough but I soared). Not surprisingly, it's very expensive to study any medical course, especially medicine. You would have to break the bank and your head to be able to study a course like that. I looked at the financial aspect of it and figured it wouldn't be a good idea for me to pursue such an expensive course with a low income.
I was no longer interested in being a banker again so I had to look for a course that would still give me the privilege of working with a doctor, yet not too expensive, and Nursing was it.
I fell in love with nursing and started building my mind towards it. I applied for Nursing Science at the university hoping to get what I applied for, only for me to get fisheries, I was depressed for months because I had to wait for another year before I could apply to school again, which was very sad and draining.
Fast forward to our present day, I'm not in school yet but I still want to pursue my career in Nursing, so I'll be applying next year again
Thanks for stopping by ❤
