I was in Jss 3. There was this particular teacher I dreaded, she taught basic technology. At the time, she was heavily pregnant, reason I suspect was the root of most of her lash outs. It was so annoying.
Strangely enough, her pregnancy never deterred her, she was always giving assignments. She was consistent at it in such a way that would. make one think she was looking for that one day anyone would default so she could make an example of him/her.
On a particular Thursday, as usual, she requested the assignment of the previous day be postponed to the next day, but still asked who and who didn't do theirs.
Most of us the defaulters (we were about 8 in number) reasoned that since she already postponed the assignment and hence won't be going through the stress of walking round the classroom trying to fish out defaulters, there'd be no harm in signifying.
In all genuineness and honesty, I signified by raising up my hand. "I didn't do your assignment, ma. I'm sorry". When about 8 of us had signified, she said okay and asked us to go out of the classroom. We did and next thing we heard was "all of you go down on your knees"
We were all shocked as we didn't know we would be punished for speaking our truth over an assignment that was postponed. Moreso, it was burning hot outside. We knelt down under the sun for about an hour -the whole of her period.
By the time she stepped out of the classroom, we were expecting she'd dismiss us back inside the classroom, but no, she further asked us to find buckets we would use to wash the teacher's toilet.
Something that later ended up taking half of the entire class hours we were supposed to have.
Thinking about it now, it's hilarious because what did I expect from a strict teacher asking "raise up your hand if you didn't do my assignment".
She's one of the reasons I hated basic tech. Even though I always performed wonderfully at it, though I learnt a lesson and never again till now that I'm in a higher institution, have I missed an assignment, test, or class.
