I'm so excited cause the first edition of this week's featured contest of this great community is related to my present job. For the past two and half years I've been a science teacher, teaching Chemistry to be precise. Being a teacher is one of the honourable job one can engage in which can make you know and get connected to different types of people in the society
Teaching can be exhausting and frustrating when you do not have passion for what you are doing, but it can as well be enjoyable when you have the passion for it. I can say I'm born and bred into teaching profession cause my Mom is a Teacher, she also doubles as a weekend volunteered teacher for children of the less privileged families. So while we were much younger, myself and elder sister serve as her supporing staff who helped her out in direcing those children. I grew to like teaching profession through my Mom, I love her passion whenever she's in class so through that I also develop the interest and find it very easy to teach and give explanations to someone on whatever difficulties the person might be having.
Teachers role is very important in a child's life cause it is whatsoever the teacher instill in the child through morals that he or she develops in and gives back to the society. Although the first school of a child is the home but the role of a teacher in a child's life can never be over emphasized. So it's all in the hand of teachers if the development of a child, country or education system either grows or shrinks.
I'm a Chemistry Teacher in a government owned secondary school in my state. I can say generally, students do run away from science subjects because they felt it voluminous and as well very difficult to learn. But when you see someone who enjoys which ever subjects he or she is teaching and also friendly, the students will like both the subject and as well the teacher the more.
Although Chemistry wasn't my first loved subject, it was when I got to secondary school and I came across a subject called Basic Science and Technology that my love for science subjects grew the more. My first loved subject was Mathematics, I found maths so easy to assimilate. I'm a lady that doesn't like reading for long hours but I grew the interest for maths cause it only deals with formulas and working techniques. When you know formulas then you are good to go in solving mathematics.
But Why Chemistry?
I have the passion to study Chemistry because of my passionate chemistry teacher while I was in senior secondary school. Mrs Idiong makes the subject so lamed for easy understanding, she is friendly and doesn't feel irritated even when we ask her stupid questions in class. Her passion for the subject makes me want to study Chemistry which I later did.
She enlightened us on how we can make use of the knowledge of the subject in several ways and also use it in getting high paying career jobs even though if we didn't use it in the teaching profession, that there are several fields that needs the knowledge of chemistry.
However, I intend to further my education in the scientific field and become a Forensic scientist but presently I'm using my knowledge of Chemistry to impact younger ones and make them understand that our survival and daily activities all deals with Chemistry and as well made them see the importance of the subject.
