The incident I am writing about is not very old. The incident of August 5, 2024, is when our generation saw how their country was liberated from a fascist government. And Bangladesh was liberated for the second time. The generation that was thought to be just wasting time on TikTok and Facebook, lazy and stupid, was able to raise the face of the country with their courage, unity and sacrifice. That day marked the beginning of our nation's second independence, when Bangladesh freed itself from the rule of a fascist and dictatorial government.
The incident began in July 2024 when the anti-quota movement first began. A new tone arose in the hearts of the student community and the common people against the discontent, discrimination and corruption that had been quietly accumulating in the society for many years. This protest gradually took the form of a large movement from small gatherings. When the Supreme Court of the country announced radical reforms in quotas and gave more momentum to the movement, the hope and enthusiasm of the common people increased even more.
The situation has intensified since the beginning of August. At the peak of the protest, the people came together and displayed immense power. On August 5, in the most memorable moment of that day, when Hasina-Rehana, who had been the embodiment of authoritarian rule for many years, left the country, we see how the people of a country stand together and achieve victory against injustice. This incident is not just a story of political change, but also teaches us that through unity, struggle and sacrifice, we can make the impossible possible.
I hope many of you know this incident in Bangladesh because such incidents in a country were reported in all newspapers and TV news. The students of Bangladesh took to the streets because of their own desire for freedom, which proved that when we come together, no rule, no oppression is sustainable. Every newspaper and television news had pictures and responses of that moment, which awakened new enthusiasm in the minds of people in every corner of the country.
This united movement has taught us how to build a disciplined, just and developed society by learning from the mistakes of the past. The day of 5th August 2024 is not just a symbol of rebellion, but it also reminds us that when we all stand together, every inequality and injustice in society collapses. Today's Bangladesh, with the inspiration and enthusiasm of that day on every street and in every mind, is helping to make every step of the future more solid and humane. This event has proven that real change in society is possible only through collective efforts, and in the light of that change, we can see the dream of a new, bright Bangladesh.
