Good morning peeps. Another cold morning down here. I just read post on the sudden realization of the things one could have done but couldn't because of the unavailability of money. His post sends a lot of striking truth to my mind. It is however important to know that many of us think great stuff, we imagine how we want things to eventually work out in our favor but lack the willpower to drive these thoughts to reality.
A few years ago, one of my friends and I returned to Lagos to hunt for a job. We were fresh graduates with the desire to make money real quick. We set out to submit our CV and application letter to as many companies as possible.
For, I had loads of responsibility to carry on the home front since I was the first child of my parents. So, we are fed several interviews around Allen Avenue, Maryland, and some on Lagos island but the take-home was too small compared to what we have heard about jobs in Lagos.
Long story short, I got a job with pay of three thousand and five hundred nairas (that was in 2003). Then, the naira still had some great value. My friend refused to take the job. He rather decided to return to Awka in Anambra state where he went to pick up his international passport and bolted to Ghana and from there to China.
We lost contact for several years. I had gotten married with children and God and had built a house of my own(financial discipline) but this my friend came back from China where he had been jailed and repatriated for drug offenses.
Money Is What You Think It Is
From the foregoing, there were times that I wanted to let go. I wanted to stop the job and also run away from the country because I wasn't getting a good job. I just kept pushing it. I am or where I would have loved to be but the truth is that I am not where I used to be.
One thing that you can do is to create a brand. That thing you know to do well could be a product or a brand that can bring in fortune for you. Why not build it?
I created a nomenclature that can bring in money. And the nomenclature becomes a value that people want to buy. They did buy and I did manage the meager income I made from it.
There is nothing bad in having a big dream. What matters is to run with the dream for it to materialize. Dreaming alone is not enough. One should work at it.
Some fellows are at that point where they can make a lot of money for themselves but didn't realize it, yet they are looking in other directions.
Start Where You Are
Every place you find yourself has a need. All we need to do is to find the need and provide it. Recently, I took my time to read some books about great men, those who made it from scratch. One thing I realize is that they provided a solution to one particular problem and that is it, money came knocking in on them.
One can also look for side hustles. For me, from the time when I joined Uptrennd to now that I am on Hive, I can say these platforms have been very helpful. I took them as side hustles. There is more that one can do as a side hustle.
You Don't Have To Go To The UK to Be Ok!
I have since found out that many people who go looking for treasure in the Western world usually come back home empty-handed. One of my relatives had that experience. The only thing he came back with is just earrings. Hahaha, you heard me right, earrings. He was forced out of his home just like Eboe (one footballer who lost all his fortune to a failed marriage in a foreign land).
In all these, the ability to focus can make you break through a system where money is hard to make by targeting your life goals.
Financial Discipline
As an aid in one of the paragraphs up there, one has to be disciplined in spending. Of course, some basic needs must be satisfied but most of us pursue what we do not need.
I have learned that the propensity to save up to 30% of one's income is the degree of wealth one would be able to have in no short while.
When I was earning #3,500, I still saved up money. I would wake up very early to go to work by trekking for at least an hour just to save cost. When my salary was increased by #500, I was happy that I had to increase my savings. And since I was young, I would return home immediately after work. I was engaged in a two-hour coaching where I learned an extra pay.
Financial freedom is possible, only if you can be focused on pursuing the dream and spend wisely.
